Half of Georgia Obamacare Signups haven't paid

Georgia insurers received more than 220,000 applications for health coverage in the Affordable Care Act’s exchange as of the official federal deadline of March 31, state officials said Wednesday.
Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens, though, said premiums have been received for only 107,581 of those policies, which cover 149,465 people.
“Many Georgians completed the application process by the deadline, but have yet to pay for the coverage,” Hudgens said in a statement Wednesday.
March 31 was the official deadline for individuals to get insurance coverage or face a financial penalty under the ACA. Yet because of the deluge of last-minute shoppers, federal officials relaxed the rules for those who reported having trouble with the exchange, and gave them into this week to sign up.
Given that extra time, there have presumably been more Georgians both signing up and paying for their premiums in April. They would not be included in the figures released Wednesday.
The Insurance Department said it surveyed the five health insurers (Alliant, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Humana, Kaiser and Peach State) conducting business on the exchange to determine how many Georgians would be covered.
The number of Georgia applications – 221,604 – was a big jump in two weeks from the 177,668 that completed applications by March 15.
Almost all of those policies’ purchasers will receive a federal subsidy to afford the coverage, Hudgens’ office said.

Shocking.

Didn't I read somewhere that the subsidies are only good for the first three years and then after that you're on your own?
Right after the 2016 elections? Who would have thought it, if true?

The half that did pay didn't keep their doctor.

Or their existing insurance if you believe the Rand Corp study

None of this matters. It was all about the 7M sign-ups.

Yep, it's a complete joke yet the Dems have brainwashed the media and most of electorate that everything related to Obamacare is going according to plan. The liberal candidates will run on it leading up to the midterms through a well orchestrated propaganda campaign.

Expect a non-stop parade of "obamacare done saved my life!!!" ads - that is where the media doesn't run them for free as part of their community outreach and education programs.

I bet we will find that the Feds used other federal programs to automatically sign up people for subsidized coverage...

I posted this just to point out for every sunshine pumping article there is an equally bad, if not worse article doom and gloom article.

Too bad politics can't be like sports. A coach comes to practice on Monday and tells the team "we're going to work on the bad things in hopes in not doing it again so we will get better". In politics it's "let's promote the good things going on and not put emphasis on the bad things that are dragging us down".
Jeez.
Jeez.

The numbers will obviously increase a little bit being its only been 3 weeks since then end of enrollment...
Do people have the option to pay their first premium at the time they signup or do they have to wait? If they have to wait, then I understand the number being that low, however if people can pay immediately, it doesn't bode well.

I read in politico this morning that 15-20% nationwide haven't paid.
Yeah, thats the realistic number that has been floated around via polling and the likes.
The 50% is likely only that high due to last min rush and only being three weeks since.

Lower than I would've thought. Will be interesting to see what the numbers are after 2-3 months. Sticker shock like a MF imminent. "Wait, I have to pay this every month????!!!"

Correct. here's an article from last month about this argument:
LINK
quote:
First, the percentage of enrollees who have paid up (the "paid rate") looks to be hovering at 81%-85%. The figure is murky because only 10 states actually provide a figure. That includes California, which bases its figure on what it hears from the insurance companies getting the payment and which says its paid rate is "more than 85%" as of March 15.
But Gaba observes that the 15% shortfall includes a lot of people who aren't sleazing out on their bills. It includes millions of people who enrolled between mid-February and mid-March and won't start coverage until April 1; there will be more who have enrolled since March 15 who won't start coverage until May 1. Their first bill might not arrive until as long as six weeks after their enrollment, which means many haven't paid because they haven't been billed yet or have been billed but the payment isn't yet due.
