Decked out, they are all over $55k, but you can get rebates to knock them down under $45k at any dealership you go to. Occasionally, you can find a $15k rebate on a new vehicle

That's alot compared to their competition, and they hold their value similar to their more expensive counterparts. For example, 2007 Corvette costs $50k new, could be bought for $21k with high miles, or $25k with under 100k miles. So between 42 and 50% of its original value. A 2007 Porsche 911 costs $73k new, and could be bought for $37k with low miles. Again, 50% of its original MSRP. So even though Chevy makes many more Corvettes than Porsche makes 911s, they hold value equally.

False, Porsche has manufactured about double the 911's in the past few years compared to Vet.. so that argument won't fly

I have a Tahoe. It's roomy, drives nice, and is approaching 160k and still rolling strong. So I would suggest that before any other SUV for those reasons.

You're not getting a new LTZ for $45k. You can't even get a leftover 2013 for $45k, LINK. That's the cheapest one within 500 miles.

Man I want one but realistically I have no need for something that big. Way too wide. I would tear it up in a quick minute on some of the trails I drive on here in Montana. If it's as wide as my dad's Tundra then no thanks.

Well I was only counting base 911s, not turbo or 4s. Looks like that was a mistake

Regardless, numbers isn't what makes the LC hold its value. Quality is.

How many vehicles that cost $45k are worth $10k 16 years later?

Wranglers hold their value pretty well, look at what people still want for a 1997-98 wrangler if it's in good shape.

I think Tahoe prices are CRAZY. When I was almost finished school, I seriously considered getting an LS Tahoe. This was around 07-08. I know that I found the base price to be under 30k. I ended up getting a truck instead. Two years ago I decided to get an SUV. Base price of the Tahoe was right under 40k. OUTRAGEOUS!!! I lucked up and found a pretty well equipped LT less than a year old that was just traded in with under 20k miles. Paid low 30's for it. There's nothing wrong with it. I honestly do not have the desire for any other vehicle right now, but I don't think I could pay what they're asking for them now. I don't know if there is anything else in that price point that's better, but vehicles today are just a bunch of plastic waiting to break and rattle after 4 years. I'm not paying those prices for that crap.

Wranglers are one of the only other vehicles that hold their values as well as an LC.

There are rebates all of the time for $5-15k on domestic trucks and SUVs.

ETA: Truck rebates are normally more than SUV rebates

My buddy's dad bought a 2013 Yukon Denali for $53k and he said the MSRP on it was ~$65k

I'm not saying there isn't a reason to own a truck, but I seriously doubt 50% of the people who have them need them. SUV's are probably a more useful vehicle to most people. I went from a truck to a Tahoe and I don't know if I've had to borrow a truck more that twice in the 2 years I've had it. I could have easily rented or bought a small trailer and I wouldn't have had to borrow the truck. I don't need that bedspace enough to justify making my vehicle purchase based on it. I carry people more than cargo, and with a kid on the way, I'm very happy to have the SUV. Don't think we could fit everything in my wife's car as comfortably.

Regardless, you're not getting in a new Escalade or LTZ or Denali for $45k, unless you are buying last year's model.

You maybe right, though is could be a cult like thing that the Land Rover Defender has going on..

But Don't count out new Tahoe and Suburban in the quality category ...I've own both.. I drove my Tahoe to 165K mile only changing oil , tires and 1 belt..
Suburban has 115k and have only done normal maintenance as well

In my family there were two 2007 Suburbans, an LTZ and an LT. Both have aged terribly. Paint flaking off the steering wheel controls, the black coming of the HVAC buttons, etc. Stuff that shouldn't happen on $50k vehicles. They're just shite compared to what Toyota puts out. Of course it all looks nice when it's new, but let's see if it actually holds up to time. LC have a track record of holding up, Suburbans just don't.

I have a 5 by 8 trailer as well as the tiny-arse bed on my Tacoma. That said, the Tacoma is super nice for heading down to the beach or woods or places thing are going to get dirty. The Tacoma isn't nearly as comfortable or as efficient as modern SUVs, but I just now went into the woods and drove it in 4LO and man is that fun as frick with a 6 speed manual.

My boy is 7 and I plan on tearing it up with him, the dog, and the atv/paddleboard. Leather and nice interior is fine for the wife's car, but I don't need it in mine. It's going to suck getting out west for vacation this year (gas wise), but it will be a damn blast having a high clearance 4by in the Sierras. It'll be a dirt road tour of high mountain lakes until someone yells mercy.

It's silly to compare a Wrangler with a Land Cruiser. Not even the same ballpark. Also for most people Wranglers are impractical.

I've seen the new Tahoe LTZ around town. Not that impressive and I don't know why you would drop that kind of money on a GM SUV.

Tahoes are more modern van than an SUV. Speaking of, they should make a 6 door van with a larger hood and be done with it.

I had a 1982 model while in Kenya, and owned a 2000 for 10 years here in the states. There is no substitute, it is a vehicle designed to haul people and cargo to places far from paved roads were cell service won't be available in our lifetime. GM/Ford SUVs, current Range Rovers, most of the Jeep products were designed to be driven to shopping centers where a hazardous driving environment might be wet pavement.
