Anyone design + build a cheap floating bait bucket?

Take a floating ring buoy and put a champagne basket inside and make a wooden cover with a hinge. Will be cheap if you can find a ring buoy for free.

I want to do this to keep shrimp in when wade fishing.
I want to get one of these
And attach something like around the top rim

I need to do this. I've found them to work incredibly well as long as you're not trying to keep pogies--their noses get beat up pretty bad
ETA: pool noodles also work for the float

I'd like to use a 5 gallon bucket so I can use the bucket for casting/sabiking live bait on shore

If you are going to be on the shore then you really don't need it to float. Just drill some holes in a five gallon bucket, put a lid on it, and tie a rope to the handle.

I catch the bait on shore + then go wade out.

5 gal bucket with holes, two pool floats cut to fit around the top of bucket, one under the other, two rod holders on inside of bucket. I have used this set-up surf fishing, if waves are not breaking to bad. Use rod holders for landing net and pliers. Also bouyant enough to hold rod while re-tying in surf.

You can get these for $20 or so. Two buckets in one with the inner bucket full of holes.

Take a pool noodle and a 5 gallon paint strainer bag. Cut and glue the noodle into a ring to fit the bag. Cheap and the bag has very fine mesh which will help keep the bait from getting stuck in the net. If you want to upgrade this, cut a hole in a piece of 2' x 3' marine plywood. Cut a hole near one end big enough for a 5 gallon bucket. Glue fun noodles, or whatever closed cell foam you have, to the bottom for floatation. You can either drill a bunch of holes in a bucket and use it or attach a garment bag to the hole. Then tie a rope to the board and you have a floating platform. We have even gone further and put brackets on the platform for holding tackle boxes drinks, whatever. This is good for waters with little or no wave action.

I'm going to take your noodle/strainer idea and run with it. I'm going to make the noodle wide enough so I can close the mesh part inside the five gallon bucket. I'm going to keep the shrimp bucket below the netting and drill a hole at the top of the five gallon bucket for the aerator. Should be cheap and easy to make.

The little yellow and white bait buckets aren cheap and work. Tie it to my fish basket when wade fishing.

Just take a 5 gallon bucket with a lid.
Cut holes aroung the top 3rd of the bucket for water.
Take a noodle and cut it in half lengthwise.
Form that in to a circle that will fit on the bottom of the bucket lid and either glue that on the bottom of the lid or cut small holes on the top of the lid and tie the noodle on the lid.
Cut a hole in the lid big enough to get your had in.
The noodle will be enough to float the bucket.

One more word of advice, if you use the bait bag and are tying it to you, use a quick release. I've had my bait bag hit hard before. It's not a fun feeling.
