You've prolly noticed this former scout is getting a lot more screen time on nfln. He usually has a good take IMO.

For Lee it will simply be where teams have them stacked. Ya prolly could find every combination of ranking Lee, Beckham, & Cooks on various NFL teams boards.
I look at who the mocker passed on as much as the pick. Gilbert leaped to the top of the CB board at the Combine. Earlier Dennard had been the higher rated. He has him going 4th after Roby & Fuller #25 (my mock to the Saints). He would be one picked later I could see over Lee.

No way we pass on Dennard if he's there....

benjamin blew off a workout with an NFL coach today because he was too "tired".
I see his stock falling because of that. Showing you don't have work ethic, not a good idea.

I want some top 5 pick one day to say, "I'm not going to your combine. I'm not going to any pro day. I'm not doing your monkey tricks. You've seen me play. If you want to talk, give me a call. I play football, not draft prospect."

That top 5 pick will lose millions of dollars that way and end up looking like an idiot.
But hey at least he made is point though right?

If he's a top 5 pick, generally considered can't miss level, then teams will cater to him.

Not necessarily. Drafts are all about potential, and work ethic plays a huge factor in that. There's no sure thing in the draft. It's always some sort of gamble. When a team is investing money in a player they want to know he is committed.
Question marks have been going around about Clowney. He was the sure number one pick, but his work ethic is begin questioned. He didn't say anything like Benjamin did, but he knocked himself out of absolutely being the top pick. He still might go first overall, but if he'd say something like Benjamin did it would hurt his stock.

I am quite a fan of DJ. Listening to him talk, he knows what he's saying better than most. He looks a little nervous on TV but I listen to a lot of NFL.com podcasts (around the league, CFB 24/7, etc) and he frequents them all and he's a lot more comfortable there. Very knowledgeable guy - him and Bucky Brooks both.
From what I've gleaned from both Jeremiah and Brooks, they aren't that excited about Dennard and they feel like a lot of him being high in mocks is media driven and not necessarily the way teams are feeling. I don't know how true that is, because they ARE the media, so take it with a grain of salt. Obviously they think he's good but they both have him as their 3rd or 4th corner.
It's the same sort of deal with Mike Evans. I know Bucky Brooks specifically thinks Evans is only #2 because he is big .. He thinks the general "tier 2" guys are all better at everything else but that Evans gets the nod over them because of his size - which is fair given how popular big WRs have gotten in the NFL.

Dennard's big knock is his injury history. He has decent speed and size. He was a great man cover corner in college and played for a very good defense so it may be that the rest of the team was solid around him. If Dennard is there I don't know how the saints don't pull the trigger on him although Lee at 27 could be interesting. That guy has the potential to be great...but...other USC WR's have struggled recently.

If he doesn't perform at the combine or pro day and he's not injured, his stock will be dead.

Someone already said it but Clowney is a prime example of this. Dude was obviously the #1 pick until questions about his work ethic came about. Imagine if he didn't do the combine or pro day?
His stock would drop quite a bit.

A bit of an overreaction, huh? Truth is, there's a ton of players interviewing & working out for perspective teams more so then past seasons because of the draft being pushed back.
We have all heard of deals being in place for players at the top of the draft even before the draft is held. Who is to say, Benjamin hasn't already spoken to a team that intends to draft him & he likes how they plan on using him so he & his agent purposely sabotage a workout with another potential suiter? It may sound crazy but if anyone has watched any documentary on what goes on prior to & during the draft, would understand this is totally possible. Give players, agents, coaches & GM's another month's time before the draft & anything is possible.

Drafts are all about potential
In the past this was true & is still the case in rounds 5-7 but rounds 1-4 are about finding talent that fits into your system, offensively or defensively. Teams are looking for immediate contributors in rounds 1-4 & not just potential. Teams look more for players with potential they can possibly develop in rounds 5-7.

In the NBA draft or the #1 pick in the NFL.

He'd be dumb if he actually believed that.
Guarantee no one promised to draft him a month before the draft begins.

What I mean is that draft picks aren't a guarantee. There's still a risk. Teams are looking for an immediate impact from the early draft picks, but it's still not a sure thing. Having a player miss a work out and show a lack of effort would turn off teams from wanting to invest in the potential talent. It would worry any team if they are drafting a guy with no work ethic because they would be possibly wasting a high pick. They look for need and someone that could contribute immediately, but it's also based on their potential, which character issues can negatively effect.

Do you have some insight into every team's front office meetings to guarantee this 100%. I never implied that was 100% exactly what happened but neither you nor I have any insight to what is currently going on behind the scenes.

From the outside looking in, I can understand seeing it that way but none of us are privy to what is currently going on behind the scenes. This draft has a different aspect about it being that it's a month later then usual.
