In case those damn pot heads get out of control. But why the frick would a local sheriff ever need a tank?

To get out on the snow, perhaps?
Posted on 4/10/14 at 9:56 am to Vinny V
in case they run out of dog ammo

the comments on reddit are hinting at this being more of a workaround for military funds than a sheriff actually needing a tank.

Can someone change "county" to "Parish"? I'd like to troll a few friends.

Something like that may be useful in search and rescue type situations. I know nothing about Jefferson County, Co though

looks like something the LP sheriffs would have bought..

I like how it has "dial 911" on the side. What else could you possibly hope for if the tank is already on scene?

Got to fend off all those insurgents in suburban Denver.

That is an M113 Armored Personnel Carrier that first appeared in the 60's and is still has many variants in use to day with the US Army. AS for civilian police needing APC's well, it's a growing trend where we're seeing civilian sheriffs and police becoming paramilitary forces....
Welcome to the police state people.

I'm pretty terrible at this, but it might work for you

The fact that so many police forces around the country are getting these is a pretty scary thing. They already don't know how to handle themselves

Glad to see you on board and spewing your usual crap. Thos vehicles are armored for SWAT rolls. They are almost never seen unless in a parade or if hey are needed in an extreme situation. There was a situation like this is Jefferson parish several years ago when a mental fellow was shooting at the police out of his second story window with a high powered rifle. I imagine you would have the stones to just stroll up to the house and tell him to stop but we can't all be as special as you.

I work for an agency that has a MRAP. Trust me, you have nothing to worry about. Its a chance for Sheriffs and Chiefs to spend 15,000 dollars of other peoples money on a 1/2 million dollar toy. Wastefull spending should be the only concern
