Pop up to left field----it's a HOME RUN!

You can hear Hani's wheels turning on whether or not to correct Hawthorne's mistakes.

Having moved to MS a year ago, I've been stuck listening to Miss St football, basketball, and baseball games when driving. I meant to post this a while ago, but never got around to it. Don't take Hawthorne for granted. The geezer who announces Moo St is horrible. He spends to much time trying to describe the play, he completely forgets to tell you the play itself.
This precisely. Mississippi State radio announcer are the worst ever. From the old monotone shite head that retired to the people that currently call their games. I'd take Hawthorne over those arse clowns any day.

The voice in the radio industry is #1 in importance and every this else is a fairly distant 2nd.
Each to our own bout Jim, but you don't win the prestigious national Lindsey Nelson award without being a fairly talented broadcaster.

When was his last award of that kind?

Try it - see for yourself. Lastly, none of u have done any voice work. It's a challenge. I do quite a bit. It's tough. Jim is awesome at his job
This is such a tired-arse argument. I don't need to know how to cook to know that the chef who prepared my food did a lousy job. I don't need to know how to fix a car to know that the mechanic who worked on my vehicle didn't do it correctly.
Calling a game involves a LOT more than just loving LSU and having a nice voice. It's all that other stuff that gets people upset with Hawthorne. He gets his own players confused, doesn't keep up with the plays, does a poor job of keeping the listener informed of game situations, and goes negative at the drop of a hat.
FYI, yes, I do a lot of voice work, too, and I have done PBP. I also listen to a lot of other PBP guys, and LSU deserves better than what Hawthorne delivers. I haven't heard all of the SEC PBP guys, but in my opinion Florida, SC, UGA, Bama and Mizzou have better ones than LSU. Satellite radio will open your ears to a lot of other really good ones around the country.

"Line drive basket to the short side. He turns and fires and a fantastic alley-oop catch by Landry in the Endzone! And that will retire the side, no runs, no hits, no errors, and a third consecutive double double by Johnny O'Bryant III."

During the spring game.
1st down. Ball at the 20.
QB bobbles the snap/handoff and running back falls on it at the 14.
Coming up next, 2nd and 15.
Incomplete pass.
3rd and 14.
I'm like, again, WTF?
I know its minor, but that's a pet peeve of mine, if all you have to form a visual is ol' Jim.

come on, all the coaches love him and think he does a GREAT job, he loves LSU, he is the best we can get, he has put in his time and should be able to retire when HE wants, he does a great job and even the people in the ath department think he does a great job, he also works really hard to know the players and the teams in a tireless effort to do his job...
yes, Im being sarcastic....

his voice is great. it's everything else that is frustrating.

My only complaint about Jim is that he sometimes lets his frustrations or negativity out if the Tigers do something wrong.
You can hear it in his voice. It's almost like he expected something to go bad.
This is more prevalent with football than baseball, however.
Other than his 'glass half empty' tone sometimes, there's not much else that bothers me.
Sure he makes mistakes sometimes, but he corrects some of them and does really emit an LSU homer attitude, which is fine by me.
He's been doing it for 30 years, so you know he's dedicated.
Yes he does say 'and that retires the side' when the game is over and 'strike three' when there are two outs, but not ALL THE TIME. He DOES also say 'and that's the ball game, Tigers win! Tigers win!, and 'that's it for the Tigers in the fifth, but LSU picks ups 2 runs on four hits, and we go to the sixth, with the score LSU 18 alabama 0...'

you really really can, it's funny when he does decide to interject, he tries to do it so subtle
fwiw he does a great job keeping up with basketball, and a decent enough job with football
his shortcomings really really are noticeable in baseball, why? im not sure....but boy he does miss and miss hard on some calls
driving home from work yesterday and listening to his pregame he really seemed to be struggling on his words
I honestly think Jim has a passion for his job, but he's the type of employee thats not very self-analytical. So the things he does good he'll keep doing a good job, but if he's struggling at something he'll never know. I don't think anyone at Guaranty gives him any feedback.
I don't think he should be fired by any means, but I think a little feedback wouldn't hurt.
However, he comes off as the type of employee that couldn't handle feedback.

Looks like the Rant Crybaby Fest is still going on.
What a bunch of pussies you all are. Nothing but complaining, bitching, whinning and more complaining.
You all sound like a gaggle of women having all "that time of the month".
