re: Why Doesn't UCONN's Mens Basketball Program Get the Love?

2010 Duke was 35-5. Before they won the ACC Tournament, they were 26-5. They were a legit 1 seed.
2011 UCONN was 9-9 in the Big East the year they won the regular season.
Let's say UCONN wins the title on Monday. The reason why UCONN doesn't get as much love as the other powers is because half of their championship teams weren't even top 25 mainstays the year they won the title.
The move to the AAC, the ensuing terrible tv deal, and the academic suspension for dismal APR scores don't help, either.
2011 UCONN was 9-9 in the Big East the year they won the regular season.

ESPN is in Bristol. UCONN ball has been getting love from them since ESPN was created. In fact all ESPN used to show is UCONN ball. They helped build that program.
Correct answer

I think it is more based on the whole Big East being the first major contract for ESPN. Now that the conference is dead, the AAC isn't getting any love.

it's because they played in the American Athletic Conference this year instead of their competition in former years being in the Big East alongside more premier basketball programs like St. Johns, Syracuse, Pitt, ect

ONNs years between championships haven't been as great as someone like Duke... I can't remember a year they made the FF outside of one of their three championship teams.
I see your point.
So, in other words, the only thing you remember is UConn dominating the shite out of the Final 4

The opening line of mostly Ky -3s are being nibbled by UConn backers down to 2.5s. Three of Ky's 5 wins on Harrison buzzer-beaters. UConn despite being viewed as lesser talented, and/or smaller on the Fontline than Ky..bested the two perceived best teams in the Dance and Vegas pre-tourney chalk in Fla and MSU..surprisingly with some arguable ease.
Whole dance has been a dogfest, as were Sweet 16 and Elite 8 weekend, then again today..been a good while since this dance had a fav cover a ballgame!

I can think of 2. When they lost to Michigan St. and when they lost to George Mason

seems like they were tailing off toward the end of the Calhoun era, and I'm not sure ppl were sure what to make of Ollie yet.

Everyone knows they are a top 10 team but thats about it.

the team that lost to George Mason lost in the elite 8. I thought that UConn team was gonna take it all, and that a few of those guys would be better pros than they turned out to be.

Who were the stars on that team besides Rudy Gay? Marcus Willians, Josh Boone, and Denham Brown? I'm forgetting someone, right?

You're right. For some reason I thought Mason made it to the championship.

Hilt the Stilt Armstrong and the shooter Rashad something. there was talk of them having 5 first round picks in one draft (they got 4). I remember really wanting the Hawks to trade down and get Marcus Williams (they drafted Shelden at #5 )

Duke for sure had a better resume and a more successful over season.
But put 2011 UConn in the tournament against 2010 Duke in the tournament, and UConn wins that game, IMO.
That's just how I look at it. I know a lot of people might view it differently.

IMO UConn would have beat a lot of tournament champs that year. They didn't have the best regular season but once the Big East tourney started they just got on a roll and Kemba was something to see.

If you gave 2010 Duke 2011 UConn's schedule they would of been a 5 seed or worse.

what a load of bullshite. you make it sound like the 2011 Big East was this year's NBA Western Conference. There were other teams in that amazing, never before seen, loaded 1-16 conference that managed to do far better in the regular season. It's not as if UCONN was anything more than a borderline top 25 team before they entered MSG.

That is not even close to being accurate
