Lose/Lose situation for the Saints. Match the offer and further jack up the salary cap, or don't and he goes to the Falcons.

We better not have screwed this one up by giving him the lowest tender. Falcons would get a legit starting safety and we don't get any compensation. This would be a kick in the nuts. Hopefully we can match.
That said, we were slammed against the cap at that point and it seems they were squeezing.
My guess is they felt good about being able to get Byrd all along though, and the Ball signing happened too close to this for that not to have been a plan B.
The question is what does the offer look like and will the Saints match. If it's in the $2.5m, we actually lose money on the cap if we match as opposed to just giving him the 2nd round tender in the first place. That was my main problem with the decision is that it was too easy to get screwed over one way or another with it.

He's valuable to this defense. Ryan loves to use 3 safety sets.
I like the way the guy plays. Match the offer.

Jordan Pugh is on the PS

Atlantahas about double the capspace as the Saints and can easily offer him a first year salary cap hit that the saints just can't match if they front load his contract.

Arthur Blank put his hands in Benson's Bush for the last time

I don't know the details of this but will the saints get a pick out of this or is this just a straight signing?

Again, the 3 safety thing was overblown and I even dug into every team to see who was doing it and why.
Had PRob not gone down in the second game he was going to get as many, if not more than, the amount of snaps of the 3rd safety. Then White actually started getting more snaps than the 3rd safety until Greer went down and he had to start.
Circumstance(injuries) and quality(Jenkins, Harper, Vaccaro, and Bush vs. Lewis, Greer, and White) were the reasons we went with 3 safeties over 3 corners. We felt the depth was better, especially after the injuries.
And every other team that used more 3 safeties than corners had injuries like us except 1.

Not really
We have arguably the best safety duo in the NFL and this doesn't change that
Bush is a good player but not anything worth losing sleep over.

Reading their forum, and I don't know why I did. They are literally the most ignorant and obnoxious fanbase around. They are so poorly represented on their page, I would be embarrassed to be a Falcons fan.
Our 3/4 string safety signs a deal with them and they act like this is equivalent to us signing Byrd...and a few said they'd rather have Bush!
Apparently we just let them have the next great safety. frick their fanbase is sad and desperate. Loomis just got Demitroffed?
If we match? Great. If we don't? Oh well. Bush was a solid backup but that's all he really is. Enjoy our scraps, Falcon fans.

Exactly. Stealing a 26 year old stud from a division rival may end up being the best move in what looks to be our busiest offseason ever.

I liked him as a player, but I think a lot of people kinda over hyped him after he made that huge hit on Percy Harvin in the playoffs.

this is to stupid for words...

Nah I was high on him before that hit. He's solid in coverage(best we had after Vaccaro last year) and can tackle(very few missed tackles), and that's what you want in a safety.
He definitely has starter potential. He basically was our 11th starter as he had the 11th most snaps(52.7%).

They are easily the stupidest most ignorant fan base in America...

Another reason I'm upset(not really) is because I told my buddy at work we had the trifecta in our backfield: a bird, a ball, and a bush. Looks like we might get our bush shaved.
Posted on 4/3/14 at 6:30 pm to bonethug0108
Thanks for the response. It does kind of suck losing a good player like that, but with byrd signing and vacarro on the roster, he would see nearly as much playing time as he would on most other rosters. It just sucks he went to a rival.

frick.
i like him, agree he has starting potential but that won't be here. want to see the offer sheet but i feel we let him go.

A Byrd in the hand is worth two of the Bush.
