With humans evolving before our eyes, why are pregnancies still 9 months?

Clearly, humans get bigger, stronger, faster each decade that passes. A 7 ft. player in basketball was a big deal when I was a kid. Now, every team has one and some have multiple. Football and track athletes break speed records each year.
So I've been thinking, Why does it still take a bitch 9 months to handle her business?

It's not evolution that has made us grow; it's the crap they put in our food, and more access to protien.

I don't think you know how evolution works.
The technology available to athletes is much better than it was decades ago which allow athletes to be bigger, faster and stronger.

I think that has more to do with nutrition and a larger base population from which to draw talent. I don't think that's actually evolution.

Wouldn't a better question have been, "Why do babies still come out and stay completely helpless for so long?"

Not with that attitude

Also, if people would stop banging the fat and ugly the overall population should improve in appearance and health.

While we can control, to some degree, gene expression, true evolution happens at a much slower pace. "You can't train height" is true once you have a grown individual. But you can damn sure affect someone's height with their nutrition and activity until they are fully grown.

FTFY, Idiocracy, brah.

Also, since you're drawing from a much larger population now, you're going to have more taller people to choose from.

Substantial increases in medicine, health, nutrition, diet and exercise techniques lead to these increases.

Preemies are much more likely to survive these days. Which is kinda the same thing?
I just had the horrifying thought that, within my lifetime, it will be a thing for women to have early C sections to preserve their figure from months 8 & 9 of pregnancy.

Unless you can prove there are more 7' tall people than there were 20 years ago with a sample size larger and less selective than just "pro atheletes," you have no argument.
Humans in general are taller on average now than they were centuries ago, but that has more to do with better/adequate nutrition than evolution. Though I suppose height is attractive to females which would also factor into selection for taller height in some capacity.

You have just described eugenics, which was basically abandoned as an unethical practice decades ago.
