So I might try and do this as well this year. I do not own an offshore rod/reel of any kind, name something CHEAP I can get? I am probably going to check out that shop in the NOLA CBD that sells used rods/reels but don't know what I need.
What type of weight/capacities/etc. should I be looking at?

Myself, if I would go out and buy something used, look for Penn 30w 2 speed reels or 50's. 6' rods in the 80lb class.
Fighting a tuna is all in watching the line. Once the fish stops running and then goes deep(death spiral),reel in as the fish makes it's way back towards the boat. One will be pissing in the wind trying to reel in as the fish circles away from the boat. I watched big men hand off rods because they didn't lesson.
