Goodwin Return?

From Rotoworld:
The Saints could pursue free agent C Jonathan Goodwin if fellow free agent Brian de la Puente signs elsewhere.
The Redskins and Giants have already shown interest in de la Puente, our No. 2 available center prior to free agency opening. Goodwin would be a downgrade, but he could step right in as a starter after starting 47 games for the Saints and making one Pro Bowl between 2006-10. The 35-year-old would be a bridge to the future at the center spot.
I would be for such a move.

For one year, at most.

It would make a lot of sense for both sides. Sign him, draft a Center, and hope the rookie Center can take over next year.

Would be more than okay with Goodwin anchoring the line for one year while a promising rookie develops behind him.
Goodwin truly was underrated when he was with us, and people (like me) thought we could easily replace him. Olin Kreutz and then DLP (though he played well for a little while) proved me dead wrong.

DLP seems to rank higher in pass protection and Goody seems to rank higher in road grading.

That's what we need. I want to bash people this year. I want them to hurt after they play us.

nah, I don't hold them in any special regard. Another tool to use. I always compare their numbers to what my own eyeball test sez. They're good for quantifying some aspects of the game that aren't refelcted in common stats.

Would be a good signing IMO. I think the common consensus is that DLP was largely helped by guard play. Funny he started struggling when Evans started playing hurt.

obviously rotoworld reads my posts.

Goodwin was never underrated by anyone who understands the center position, and at that time I believed letting him go was a huge mistake. I did think Kreutz would be better than he was with us. It also takes time for offensive lines to really learn to play as a single unit. Sometimes it's better to just pay a little more to keep a player or endure a par or sub-par player (for the right price) in order to keep continuity on the line.
Tampering with your O-line every season is akin to getting plastic surgery every year. It can either make you look infinitely young or like an abomination.

and that's all it should be. some people here hold them up to be the end all of player data. last off season the Steelers were ripping them for giving The Twin a bad grade for 2012. They stated something along the effect of these are guys who've never played football sitting around judging guys who do.
I don't dislike them, but I don't think everything they state is entirely accurate. their opinions are highly injected in their numbers since it is based off of observation

Not even a blip of any Center activity leads me to believe it will be Lelito + a 2nd to 4th Rd drafted center. I really think there are 6 draftable centers that would be an immediate upgrade over dlP.

Given that not one center, except DLP's 2 recent visits, are seemingly getting a sniff, I think we are just waiting to fill other holes.
I do expect a vet C, like Goodwin, to be signed and "earn" a spot in TC with Lelito and a rookie.

I see this too. From past readings it seems they like Lelito going forward. We seem to be the ones pushing for signing someone. If Goodwin were to return, I think it would be as a reserve and potential replacement if Lelito fails. Would be open competition in camp basically.

That the Saints are not sweating DLP leaving and have not picked one up in FA would strongly suggest the answer is already in the building.
