Free agent center Brian De La Puente is visiting the Redskins, and the Giants, Patriots and Broncos also are contenders for his services, reports the National Football Post. De La Puente could still return to the Saints, the report added.

Really hoping he signs elsewhere.

Draft a center in round 1 or 2

I'd be ok with round 2. I don't think there's a 1st round center out there this year.

Is there some magical answer to the Center issue right now that 1) does not cost more money, 2) does not rely on the draft, and 3) does not rely on De Le Puente? If yes to all 3, please explain...

It doesn't seem like we are going to do anything in FA for center. I'm not a fan of DLP. If we re-sign him, hopefully it will be for the vet minimum and we can draft someone for the future.

the market for centers is flat right now. ask alex mack about it.

I fail to see how that is a solution that will be better for us this year. Ask Atlanta how their center situation worked out for them this past year. You have to be able to definitively say that a rookie fresh out of college will be better than De La Puente as a starter.
Makes more sense to retain the services of DLP for two years while our rookie develops. It's not logical to have all the working components in place to make a superbowl run but disregard a pretty important piece.
EDIT: And I am in no way saying we should go out and offer him a small fortune to return right now. Let him test the waters, and if he walks back to the table he'll be a lot more realistic. One thing I don't agree with is overpaying mediocre players, but I am sure there is middle ground to be found between both sides that will help propel the team to a great season.

When Armstead replaced Brown, Grubbs appeared to be able to play better and help De La Puente. Not saying that DLP is the best center out there, but you have to assign some value to his experience with the team and in general. There are a list of things a mile long that I do not like about De La Puente and how he plays (not a dominant blocker, doesn't appear to be very quick to adjust, and his penalties have been pretty bad this year). My concern is you can put your faith into anyone in the draft and run into the same, if not more, issues.

Good. Then we agree he is a poopy player

That doesn't mean we shouldn't try

Goodwin is still a FA. he was there for our great runs and including the super bowl. He knows the system and was part of the best offensive lines we have had.
theres been no talk of him anywhere though, which may be concerning.
