zero blame should be placed on the woman.
I didn't say she should be blamed or even charged. I said it could have been avoided had she identified her attacker.
Reading comprehension and not jumping to conclusions helps.

Lulz. You're dumb to gun laws. A home owner has every right to kill someone breaking into their home. The article states she warned him she had a gun. She did everything right, and will not face charges.

So, at night, she should've invited him in, and then decide if she should shoot him? GTFO.

Being drunk is no excuse and being a fire fighter has nothing to do with the story.
The guy was attempting to gain entry into a place that was not his. That would be called breaking and entering had she not been there to stop his actions.
Tough lesson, but this is why you don't go get so drunk you can not recognize your own house.

Right. Because that's the only way to identify someone. To invite them in. What if it had been a relative, like a son or daughter checking on her? I'm not saying fix the fricker coffee. I'm saying as a gun owner, there is no way I would discharge my firearm unless I was absolutely sure what I was shooting.
ETA: And again I will say, she should not be charged as she was within her rights. I'm only saying it was a poor choice. Legal, but a poor choice.

Did you read the article? She tried to get the person to identify himself. Come to my house and try the same thing.

Just for debate, lets assume granny had a snub nose 5 shot .38. What if she did as you were saying and instead of a firefighter, it was 7 thugs ready to clean her out?

You still don't shoot what you can't see.

This is the OT. The person with the gun is always right unless it's a cop.

Then they would have said "Mom, it's me!" When she said to leave and that she had a gun and would shoot.
She had no obligation to wait for the person to enter her home before firing. As soon as her warnings were ignored and attempted entry persisted, she was A) within her rights (stipulated) and B) using sound judgement to fire her weapon (the debate).
I would want my wife to do the same thing if she was home alone.

Bladerunner did the same thing

If the lady felt threatened, which she did, and she gave multiple verbal warnings, what more should she have done? I don't really see what she did that is so wrong... The guy was breaking and entering a property that was not his and she gave him more than one warning. I would do the same if some jackass would have ignored my warnings and proceeded to gain entry like a bull. He could have responded at any point, but kept at it with no response. Would you prefer her to take the Andrew Jackson "Wait till you see the whites of their eyes" before shooting method? Most times that is too late my friends...

I agree, but that is more of a hunting rule.
This is an old lady who feared for her life, someones was in fact jiggling her handle and ignoring her repeated warnings.

Exactly. Most hand guns will not stop an intruder in his tracks, so stopping them before they make entry is the only way to insure your safety.
