Didn't Disney come out and say they were going to hire more black actors to get rid of racial disparity in the movies or some shite like that? I don't have a problem with it but it seems like a typical Disney PC move. I don't want Star Wars to be a fricking political or equality statement.
What's the problem with intentionally putting together a racially diverse cast? Sounds smart to me.
If the characters race isn't an issue or matter in the context of the screen play, then the smart thing to do would be to put together a racially diverse cast.

I fully expect it to be just as bad, if not worse, than Episode I.
I just don't see how this is possible

I don't have a problem with there being more black people. It's just that Disney is actively trying to make it more racially diverse instead of just going off of who is best suited for a particular role. I don't think anyone should get a role just because they are white or black. It's a PR move and I hate it.

Disney makes me very uncomfortable. The main reason Episode I sucked is because Lucas tried to appeal to younger fans through Jar Jar Binks and other stupid characters like that. Now that Disney has it, I could see them doing something similar and not going to "dark places" that would be what the hardcore Star Wars fans would want.

Maybe. After seeing what Abrams did with Star Trek though, I think he'll put out something respectable.

I do like Abrams. That's what has made me not lose total faith in it. I just worry about Disney getting too involved with it and not letting him do his job.

Tell that to all those wingmen that died in Return of the Jedi. Or Lando.

If Lando isn't back, I'll riot.

So according to Disney there are only two types of humans in the Star Wars universe?

I saw Lando on DWTS last night , he looks pretty rough and can barely move..... Why would you go on that show after having two hip replacements?

My only problem with it is that it often seems forced. You start seeing proportions of multiethnic groups that just don't seem typical.
Then in shows like New Girl they have the token black character that left for another TV role after the pilot episode. He is then replaced with another black actor. I find it even weirder that he is back on the show, and it comes off as very forced. But this is really for another thread anyhow.

casting a young black female as a lead in a fictional universe with countless crazy-arse alien species would be a travesty. very atypical.

It would be very different for a main stream scifi.
I really don't care if they have a multicultural cast if they are putting the best actors in each role.
But if Han and Lea's biological kid is black I will shite a brick. Don't force the diversity.

I was pissed when I rode "Star Tours" a few weeks back and they added the Gungans to it.
Screw Naboo, I want to go on a Death Star run.

I don't think Disney cares about anything other than the marketing from the movies. They sell so much Star Wars stuff at Disney now that it's unreal.

WTF? Star Trek did this all the time. Just slap something that looks like weird genetalia on their forehead and we're all good.

He was being sarcastic.
Saying its completely idiotic to think casting a black person in a lead in a sci fi movie with aliens would be "different".

What about Chewie, or is a Wookie's lifespan similar to that of a dog?
He dead, according to the EU. That's what I'm most curious about, how much they feel confined by/respect the established universe/continuity that already exists. Obviously that stuff can be redacted, and I haven't dug into the EU stuff since I was in about middle school, but it should be interesting to see.
