I'd prefer Robinson and White over him. I'd rather see what the young guys have then sign an old guy on his last legs.
I don't see what it would hurt to bring Florence in to camp, similar to Breaston last year. If he gives you better reps than White and Robinson, then great. If not, cut him.

not much out there I see as value/fits
Britt is the only substantial WR upgrade that might be affordable. There's others but dunno if they would be better than Morgan or Moore back at cheap deals.
Pat Angerer ILB, this former 2nd Rd pick can play. He's an injury risk only starting 12 games the past two years. He fits needing a one year prove-it contract to try and get back to better money.
Shaun Phillips OLB, he was my big free agent desire for last year and he's available again. The Broncos got 10 sacks out of him for $1.4mil. At age 32 his price won't escalate much, if any. Good vet depth to rotate in behind Juneyah & Butler.
Parys Haralson, liked what he brought in limited reps. On the cheap he's a good player.
Jabari Greer, by the time camp opens he could be back at a reduced price one year prove-it deal
Wouldn't mind some of the other old CBs if the FO thinks they have anything left. Carlos Rogers, Samuel, Cason, Mathis, etc. The best not real old, possibly affordable, and having some skills CB left might be Terrel Thomas (NYG).

blasts from the past!
Peeps recognize names and don't realize how much their play has fallen off. Like some team thinking they are gonna get anything near what Will Smith once was. Thne if yer talking backup/special team player do ya want a 30+ year old guy or someone 24 at half the cost (or less)?

It's also about differentiating between a player that is done, and a player that was in a bad situation(Britt, MJD in this case).
The other guys are veterans that would come cheap and potentially start or play a big role.
I remember when Darren Sharper was "done". Had a subpar year before the Saints signed him, and led us to a Super Bowl.
You can't sign every up and coming player. You have to fill out your roster with competent, affordable, football players. Sometime that means signing a veteran. Like we did with sharper, mike mckenzie, chris mccallister.
These guys arent even that old.
BRitt- 25
MJD- turns 29 in a few days
Corey Webster- 32
Miles Austin- 29
Cason 27
Colston and Pierre Thomas are older than all of those guys except Webster

Adrian Peterson, Frank Gore, Marshawn Lynch all came in to 2013 with more career carries(or equal in Lynch's case) than MJD.
All finished top 10 in the league in rushing.
The Jaguars were horrible.

I have to admit upon thinking on it the reaction from the talking heads and the atl would almost make it worth picking up MJD(havn't seen him play in a while).
"wait...what? they got who?".
"so they save 3.5 mil from Sproles and get a 5th...use that money to get Bryd and then get MJD at a min salary to replace Sproles?".
"they cheatin...they must be...its not possible cause we didn't predict this!"

I would like to sign Shaun Phillips. Solid edge player that can get after the QB. And would come at a bargain price. Sure hes getting up there in age, but would be a nice guy to sign for a short term contract.

Many of us are expecting a June 1st cut of Bunkley to save money, or whatever the later date was, anyway how many other teams will be cutting talented players later on in an effort to make it under the cap? Would the Saints be able to add any of those players, are they cheaper to sign after getting cut later?
Posted on 3/18/14 at 6:48 pm to ATLienTiger
Most of the time June 1st cuts happen well before June. Teams can designate up to two players as such before then. Teams don't really do it to get under the cap because they don't get the full savings until June 1st(Miles Austin is a great example; saves less than a mil now but I think like $5m come June 1st).
It doesn't make the players cheaper to sign per se, but if a player is actually cut on or after June 1st they won't have as many landing spots as when FA first started.
I think Bunkley is a player that makes sense as an actual June 1st cut as his saving are minimal at the moment. Plus we may wait to see if we draft or sign an UDFA, or even a June 1st cut from another team, to replace him.
He's still valuable, but you can't really pay a guy $6.5m to play 25% of the snaps(what he played last year).

Why would we need another fullback?
