I'd say that he's left the reservation, however, its been a damn long time since he's been on it.
So, where would we be with a Ron Paul administration?

quote:
The former Republican congressman and three-time presidential candidate Ron Paul has launched a scathing attack on what he calls a US-backed coup in Ukraine, insisting the Crimean people have the right to align their territory with Moscow and characterising sanctions against Russia as “an act of war”.

But a Russian invasion of Ukraine is not an act of war?
Libertarianism has been exposed during this crisis.

Certainly not towards the US

As has your hyperbole.

Rand (not Ron) Paul "going off" on Russia this week:
"I recommend a number of specific and decisive measures to punish Putin for his ongoing aggression."
"Economic sanctions and visa bans should be imposed and enforced without delay."
"Putin must be punished for violating the Budapest Memorandum, and Russia must learn that the U.S.will isolate it if it insists on acting like a rogue nation."

I agree with Ron about self determination, but it's harder to support on the heels of an invasion, with likely bullying and intimidation and outright fraud involved with any upcoming vote.

not an act of war on the US

It depends on the type of sanctions but embargoes are acts of war.

The "isolationist" portion of this movement doesnt make much sense in todays world. Looks good on paper but people arent going to stop fricking with us just because we withdraw from world affairs.

Probably. Some of his foreign policy ideas will be validated though as will his stances on the war on drugs.

I somewhat agree with him. Economic sanctions can frick a country up, but it's a much better alternative to boots on the ground and it can be equally effective. My feelings on the matter are that, if sanctions cause innocents to starve, it's still better than bombing them and/or risking the lives of US soldiers. Probably cheaper too.
