That being said, I have no idea why someone would want to impersonate a soldier. It must be exhausting trying to remember all those lies. Heck, I have enough trouble remembering my own stuff.

Dude. I've been in a few years now, and there are still moments when somebody will bust out some acronym and I'm like "wut?"

They always, 100% of the time, trip themselves up on their uniform.

Who are those admins on that forum that they have all this information on former seals and are willing to share it with strangers over the internet?

Is no way this guy pretending to be a soldier hurting anyone. Sure it makes the guy a loser but like someone said earlier there are no winners in this video
Reading the comments, one of the two guys in the video posted... Apparently they harassed the guy again later on, and one of them was arrested on harassment charges.
Eta: I understand the frustration the soldiers feel, but they handled this wrong

Check out "Phoney Seals" at SOCNET. They probably have the biggest number of fakes.
My best claim to badass fame is having worked with a former Delta Operations commander over at the National Defense University. To me, those guys are much more badass than SEAL.

This is the disconnect I referred to. You're technically correct. It doesn't physically hurt anyone. But why wear it unless you expected to gain on the sacrifice of others(however misguided that may be). I don't know if he was trolling for soldier groupies, trying to catch some reflected glory, or playing the 'repentant soldier who used to kill babies' for some third party group. Whatever it was, he was trying to gain off of the blood, sweat, and tears of others. When you play that game, don't be surprised what happens.

No, it does not. But his uniform was the textile equivalent of 'talk shite, get hit'.

quote:Yep, but it that case as well the guy that hits is the one that ultimately face the punishment. I think the fake soldier is the ultimate arse, but if the soldiers did harass him I want them treated like any other civilian would be. Cops, soldiers, accountants, teachers should all face the same judge and jury

Definitely. Although I have no doubt that Ranger would have walked into jail with his head held high.
He's free to wear the clothes all he wants. But as soon as he starts attaching tabs, badges, and combat patches, he's playing a dangerous game. That might not be right, but it's real life. Keep in mind, for soldiers, this carries the weight of law. You DO NOT wear unauthorized crap.
Should he be able to wear unearned chest candy? I guess so. Is it a good idea? Do at your own risk.
In a perfect world, soldiers would have the restraint of Buddhist monks. It's not a perfect world.

There was a Ranger thread on here a couple of weeks back. It might as well have been written in Mandarin.

Good times. Nothing like a new Private.

I imagine. And do boot camps (sorry if they're not called that; I don't know the lingo) have the same instructors year in and year out? That would seem like an easy way to spot a liar if they made up an instructor's name or couldn't remember it.

A lot of them see through blinker fluid. I've had better results with alternator fluid. Box of grid squares normally works. Also camo softener and chem light batteries.

Marine Corps drill instructors will rotate in and out every few years.

Used the old keys to the humvee trick the other day. My special child was gone for a good 10 mins trying to work that one out
