See what I mean about rampant ignorance?
They're showing improvement!!!! (At least they aren't rated as an F anymore!!!)
At the current rate, it'll only be 20 years before EBR schools improve to an acceptable level.
Just wait around for the schools to get better folks. Have faith in the school board. They'll get it all straightened out. I promise......
You fear for your own interests and LSU.
They fear for their childrens' education.
I have more sympathy for their interests.

I'd agree that that would be the problem with organizing St. George and the major determining factor as to why I say it is probably not the answer......but I don't think people really want to think about the real ways to effectively deal with your hypothetical situation.

It means that the proposed boundaries for the SG breakaway comprises a higher average income and, therefore, will collect a higher amount of taxes from its residents. SG will collect taxes at a higher rate (tax dollars/resident) than what Baton Rouge currently collects because on average, the people of SG make (and spend) more money than the people of BR.

So you don't trust the people leading the SG breakaway? Which ones in particular? What did they do for you to not trust them? And how can you say that the funding will not be there? The tax revenue for SG will exceed the current average tax revenue for BR. Sure there might be some initial cash flow issues but the tax revenue will not be a problem.
Who will they be? What have they done? How are they qualified to run a city? How are they qualified to fix the issues? What are their plans if their solutions cant work? What if they put the city in debt trying to fix problems? How will SG affect what is the rest of Baton Rouge? Will they be dependent on each other for anything?
You know politicians every single year have ideas, solutions, goals, and have the drive to get things done for the places they represent. We hear all the talk, just like now with SG. But sometimes, there are extenuating circumstances that prevent them from getting these things done. That's my fear. SG will come about, problems will arise, and they will be like holy frick what do we do now and it will be no different, or worse, than it was before.

I'll submit a hypothetical I proposed in another thread on the matter for your consideration.
The main driver for people to move to Zachary, Livingston, & Ascension is not jobs, to avoid crime, or better activities.... it's for education. And what EBR provides to middle class families that can't afford private school is not acceptable by comparison.
The opposite hypothetical is based on providing quality education (which is the main driver for family relocation) in order to retain those families and bolster the attractiveness of the parish as a whole.

Ok so this will end badly because my dad who has lived in the Shenandoah area since the early 80's traditionally calls BR his home and people from Central and Zachary traditionally called Central and Zachary home? Do you realize that your argument has nothing to do with the outcome of this "breakaway"? Who cares what the people who live within the SG boundaries called their home city in the 70's?
My folks were among the first 100 members of the Shenandoah club, and purchased a lot on the golf course in 72/73. We never built or lived there, but I know a slew of both family and friends who grew up there, and I spent many a weekends there with family and friends. I know exactly what I'm talking about when I say this IS and always has been considered Baton Rouge by the people living there. It's never been considered an outlying area like Zachary or Central has been, which are much older and established than Shenandoah or St. George in general is.
The reason it won't work is because it's joined at the hip, and people that work in one area live in another, and so on. An imaginary line of demarcation or city limits sign is a non issue when it comes to the problems affecting one bleed over and affect the other just the same. If St. George passes, there will be nothing at all in place to keep it isolated from Baton Rouge. Matter of fact, quite the opposite. It will prove to be a magnet for the problem to relocate there and set up shop. All the while, it will decrease the already lower population density of Baton Rouge, causing it to become more ghetto, and cause yet more and more and more people to evacuate at an ever increasing rate. The worse it gets, the more people will move until it's completely ghetto and property values are shite. It won't matter if St. George is successful or not in it's school district. It's just the perception that will drive this, and now your St. George is where it was trying to run from. It's now become the problem it sought to escape from, and nothing you can do will stop that.
This is not the answer, but a knee jerk reaction that is ill conceived and not thought out very well. You can tell that by how fast this came on the scene. Somebody had something pop in their head, and now it's a movement. It's the same silly nonsense, brought to you by the people who said "build a mall, then we'll think about building a road to get to the mall."

That's what elections are for. The citizens of SG will elect who they want to run the city. I'm not familiar with either of these guys but when election time rolls around, if I don't like them I won't vote for them.

Why would anyone base their thoughts about this on the spokesman's profile? He started out making this solely about a new school district, nothing more.
It turned into an incorporation effort after 2 years of trying for a new school district and failing because of the lack of a city, according to the advocate. I wouldn't care if the guy clubbed baby seals and sold the corpses. The school system in EBR is terrible and those people are tired of paying for it.

Its kinda easy for a school system to have a high rating when there is only one school. Try and keep an A average when you have 5+ high schools and many more lower schools. Right now there is only one I believe.
Posted on 3/10/14 at 11:02 am to Mike da Tigah
So why haven't these issues bled over to Central or Zachary? Is it because people in the late 70's/early 80's claimed Central and Zachary their home city?
Eta: arent' Central and BR "joined at the hip"? Don't people who live in Central generally work in BR?

Does that not make you wonder why he's working so hard to form a new city, along with his business partner, state senator Bodi White, and Rainey doesn't even live in the proposed new city or school district? (Neither does White, for that matter.)
