City of Heroes, will PvP in MMOs ever be this good again?

To any of those who spent time in Paragon City or the Rogue Islands know how good this MMO was. The fact that the community stayed strong from 2004 - 2013 was something to be proud of. Once hooked, the game let you develop a character in multiple ways to be vital at PvP or PvE.
As for the PvP, this is what kept me around competing in leagues. Before the nerf of i12 which slowed down PvP, it was clearly the fastest paced PvP environment which was loaded with strict team work, twitch skills and strategy. Nothing was ever straight forward or given.
For those who played and left the game due to the unexpected shutdown of Paragon Studios; have you found a new home?
I'm still searching for a MMO with the community of CoH/CoV and the lvl of competitive fast paced PvP as that universe.

EDT: Freedumb and Test PvP =)

After running through the gamut of early MMORPG (EQ, DAOC, Anarchy, Ultima, Lineage, etc.) and also some of the more modern ones as the genre exploded, I think I've decided that CoH was the best MMORPG experience I ever had.
From the character customization, to the easily digestable raids, the quality of content, graphics and freedom. Just everything about that game was about FUN. I think most MMORPG's miss that. It's about a treadmill. And that sucks.

Do you even Second Life, bro?

RF Online had the best PvP of any MMO I've played. It's too bad the rest of the game was shitty.

I miss DAoC... still the best PvP experience ever imo

They could have done it with Warhammer had EA not forced them to try and make the game more WOW like.

Yes.
The game really let the player feel in control at all times. You felt unique and played at a higher speed.
Freaux, I wish I would have known you have played. I tried to break away from CoH/CoV many times from 2004-2013, but nothing could keep my interest like being in Recluse's Victory or running trails in Pocket D. The lore and deep stories in the game had been equally impressive.
What server did you play on?
<-- Started on Guardian then moved to Freedumb

In 08 or 09, whenever that Warhammer shtt really took off a lot of us left CoH and gave Warhammer a really good chance.
We even set up PvP leagues and tried to draw interest into a competitive PvP community from the ground up. Then we realized the huge holes in the system and fckked around with AoC for a few months before falling back to our Test PvP realm in CoH/CoV.

I had at least 10 50's spread across four different servers.
I spent most of my time as a Kin/Dark Def and a Fire/Kin Controller on Pinnacle. And I started as Fire/Kin....and that was the most powerful I've ever felt in an MMORPG for an extended period of time. Was crazy until they nerfed imps and fulcrum shift.
Played Freedom near the end when it was what 1 of 2 servers left?

I think EQ, DAoC, and CoH got some major things right all on their own.
DAoC = PvP and Flexibility
EQ = Adventuring and Raiding
CoH = Individuality and Fun Factor
Golden Age of MMO's 1996-2006 or so. Pretty much until WoW came out.

Death penalty, HUGE world, sense of accomplishment when you fished a cloth sandal, true exploring without instant travel....etc. There is so much greatness in early EQ that no game will ever touch for me. I loved the 72 man raids. EQ got messed up after PoP for me and WoW pissed me off when the went from 40 to 25/10.
Theses games should be about interaction and working together, not the quick group and disband that they are now. EQ had a community and your rep mattered, nothing like a group pulling at a spire for hours at Paw and loving the grind because of the groupmates, camping the commanders room in Blackburrow, or running Kithcore at night. Tower of Frozen Shadows is still one of my favorite dungeons in any game.

Yep, I played a little of everything, especially EQ since MMOs was my favorite genre.
You could stay with the same group all night or day and get much more done as a group when compared to today's "I'm faster alone".

Played from launch until close, on and off. Freedom and Pinnacle
Never go into the PVP, but I was a huge fan of raiding, farming and Task Forces. I stayed on the hero side most of the time and never had a 50 villain.
My 50s:
Inv/Fire Tank
Shield/SS Tank
Shield/Fire Tank
FF/Dark Def
Arch/Psy Blaster
Dark/Dark Scrapper
Rad/Rad Def (my first 50)
Dark/Regen Scrapper (second 50)

And I can't believe NCSoft just didn't sell the game system/architecture off to anyone. They had plenty of buyers including a core group of the gamers.
There was a Kickstarter not to far back for a game that is supposed to be a spiritual successor, but those things rarely work out.

Still hop on there from time to time. I spent many hours of my high school years on that game.

Looking back, SWG is my favorite MMO of all time, but COH/COV is the more complete game IMO. It is #2 on my list. I wish it was still around (not in F2P form) because I would still play it.

Yeah, it is like they didn't even try to sell the game for even a remake.
