In our lifetimes?
A liberal's holy grail is socialized medicine.
A balanced budget amendment is my holy grail and I would die a happy man to see it become law for the Feds themselves.

I will honestly be surprised if we see any additional Amendments in our lifetimes.

I think we will, but it will be after the inevitable financial crash. Responsibility is only learned through failure.

Article 1 sec 8 should have been enough. Politicians will always find a way around it, and the leeches in society have absolutely no incentive to call them on it.

No, for multiple reasons. Chief among them, I believe, would be the necessity of cutting social programs (with around half of all Americans on a social program, this one is a no-brainer) and what happens in the event of war or large-scale domestic natural disaster.

Not as long as statists on both sides of the isle are in control. It's like asking greedy people to cut their own salaries; it ain't happening.

Who is the last President that left office with a balanced budget?
Who was the first President to used deficit spending in peacetime as a means to spur the economy?

That would be like expecting Dallas women to give up shopping.
