It appears Texas is set to start selling beer at basketball and baseball games this season. They are going to try it and if all goes well roll it out to football next fall.

Texas beer sales

Beers will be 8 dollars for a plastic bottle.

I assume the aggies will jump on this quick also to avoid Texas doing something they won't or can't.

So do you think LSU should be next? I think so. The extra revenue is just to much to pass up and would help department shortfalls. Maybe with beer sales they could do away with the parking fees that have hurt gameday experience and quit raising ticket prices. Why not do it?

If the Saints fans can handle it, LSU fans can too. You can sneak drinks in anyways

Its not hard sneaking whiskey into LSU baseball and basketball games. Just put it in a flask and stick it in your pocket.

I don't think it would impact everyone, but I feel like most of my friends and I would quit going through the hassle of bringing in Whiskey every week if I could get a few Cold Beers during the game.

How do you even begin to handle the SS though? Carding that many people in that small area would be a gigantic PITA.

That's consistent with nfl and nba game prices. It's probably those 16 ounce bottles. If each fan bought one beer that's 800,000 or so more dollars in the pocket of lsu each football game. Then add in basketball and baseball sales and I don't see how they could pass that up.

I'm pretty sure SEC rules do not allow alcohol sales outside club sections. I'm not sure how the brass at A&M would feel about pushing to change that--they've done pretty well selling club seats for the expanded Kyle Field (and the baseball park, for that matter), and opening up alcohol sales in the rest of the stadium might undercut that.

Isn't it up to the SEC not LSU to decide?

I'd think that depends entirely on what the "penalty" is for just ignoring that rule.

Actually discussed many times. Not an sec rule just a gentleman's agreement among the schools. As soon as one breaks it I assume they all will. (I may be wrong but that's what I remember.

It's also a way to get fans to come and stay which is a problem across college fottball.

Studies say that when beer is sold less alcohol is snuck into the venue and people get less drunk because they don't pound hard liquor.

When Lsu traveled to West Vrigina, which sales beer we set records in sales for them.

You're wrong. It's up to each individual school.

Correct. Less binge drinking.

They can charge whatever they want for beer if it means lower ticket prices, no parking fees, or something of the like. I would be shocked if that turned out to be the case, however. Either way, I'm not paying that much for a beer. I can wait a few hours to drink or stay home and get wasted for 10 bucks.

One domino has to fall in the SEC. Then I'd expect more to join in.

As for implementation regarding the student section, it's easy, just don't sell beer at those locations.

Yeah I don't see them giving up the parking fees and ticket hikes but one can dream can't they.

It's my hope that they could throw us fans a bone and say ok we will sell beer and back off the other stuff to win back some fans that have been wronged.

Now if you still have to pay 40 to park, pay higher ticket pieces, and buy beer for 8 a bottle then I will skip the drive in from Texas and just watch on my hd screen.

Texas officials say they are doing this to improve the fan day experience which is a thought that has never crossed any lsu officials mind.

It's the SEC. And the Baptist in Birmingham from Bama make the rules. And Georgia, Tennessee and Miss do what they're told, So don't think it would happen

Tulane sells beer at baseball and basketball games. I wonder if they will sell beer at their new stadium?
