I just got a bmag not long ago and I can't find enough ammo for it to want to keep it. I'm thinking about getting a 22-250 for what I was going to use the 17wsm for. This includes plinking, coyotes, turtles, snakes, raccoons, crows, buzzards, and maybe hogs(never been hog hunting but I'm hoping to go in the future). Do you think the 22-250 is a good round for this? I like the 204 as well but If I see a deer with 22-250 in my hands I can legally blow it's head off.

My brother has a 700VTR in .22-250

Very very badass round. I personally thing the .223 is a little better just because of how much cheaper it is to shoot, but that .22-250 is a bad mutha and not many people can outreach it.

"legally"? so everything turned out ok? you don't need permission from gf, her parents, her grandparents, the maid, the police or the judge?

why waste bullets? you can blow a deers head off with arrows from over 50 yards away, no?

yes, that was a smile,, semi-forced, but still a wrinkled, leathered up old smile from a toothless mouth with old man spittle running down the edges onto my hand made bib from my great great grand kids.

.22-250 is great for hog hunting and general varmint control, and as you said, you can legally kill deer with it. I would get one. The only issue I see with your question is that you mention using it for snakes and turtles...I dont think it is a good use of ammo as it does not cost the same as a rimfire to shoot. Fot he other usesyou mentioned, it is an amazing rifle round.

I like this caliber and nearly pulled the trigger on purchasing a used one two months ago.

The browning bolt in this caliber looks nice - will take time to find the right one.

A_bear,
Sorry to hear of your dilemma....Not having ammo to shoot is the pits! I'm curious as to the areas where you'll be shooting? Are we talking about deep woods where shooting doesn't upset anyone or lightly populated areas where loud gunfire might be a problem? The 22-250 is a FINE varmint and predator hunting round (in fact, I've got a 22-250 Ackley Improved Encore barrel, but that's another story), but it does have significant muzzle blast. Top end 22-250 loads (the kind you'll be buying off the shelf) use about 50% more powder than do similar 223 loads. The 22-2250 will obviously be MUCH louder than the 17 WSM. Depending on where you'll be shooting, I wonder if the 22-250 will be a little too much.

I have a Kimber in 22-250 that is one of my favorite rifles.
Walnut stock
Blue action
Stainless barrel
Semi fluted
2.125 lbs trigger
4.5-14 leupold varmint reticle

I have dispatched the following with ease:
Deer
Hogs
Yotes
Prairie dogs
Coons
1 fox

I've also been told the gun will kill collered snow geese out to 400 yds

Anybody have any experience with the savage axis? Thinking about getting the axis in 22-250 and keeping the 17wsm. I like the 17 and don't want to get rid of it just incase it does get popular.

I might just keep the bmag. I just scored 6 boxes of ammo at dicks. Maybe it will start getting produced more.
