True NBA center piece players...

Russillo was just talking about this on the radio.
Who are the NBA players you can truly build a franchise around?
They listed Lebron, Durant, Paul George, Chris Paul and Derrick Rose (depending on his post injury abilities).
Is that the list? Anyone else you would build around?
ETA: The above mentioned players are the guys they listed on the show.

Anthony Davis certainly belongs in the discussion

I would agree. I guess they are hesitant to go there since it's so early in his career and the Pels haven't been so good yet.

AD may be one in a couple of years, but so early to determine that
Orlando reached a finals with DH as the centerpiece, which is further than most of those other centerpieces have made it (George, Paul, Rose)

What has a franchise built around chris paul ever done in the playoffs? Add Dwight, remove Chrissy. At least a team built around Dwight has made the finals once(soon to be 2x in the next year or two).

I'm surprise you didn't mention the guy in our own backyard. Anthony Davis qualifies as a cornerstone piece to a franchise. He plays both sides of the ball at a high level.

Rose can't be in the discussion...he just can't be. Add AD and Kyrie

Pretty difficult question to answer without more context. Spurs almost won a championship last year built around Parker, but obviously they had another very good player in Duncan. I'd say you have to include him, Westbrook, and others if a healthy Rose is in there.
edit: Lebron and Durant are the only two IMO. Once you go beyond those two you have to include around 10 or so guys.

You also have to add Anthony Davis. I would argue stephen curry as well. An argument can be made for Kevin love with his terrific season he is having, but I'm hesitant because he has yet to go to ?the playoffs and it doesn't look like he goes this year either. Also, give me Russel Westbrook over a healthy Derrick rose any day. That's right I said it
I love the idea of building around a bigman. So also include demarcus cousins im this list

I think Curry is more like an elite #2 player.
I just find it hard to believe your center piece can be a 6 foot tall jump shooter.
Not saying Curry isn't good, just don't know about him being the center piece.

Has Anthony Davis been mentioned yet in this thread?

A few times.
And I agree that you can build around him.
Just thought their list was interesting because it was so short, and the choices were questionable IMO.

Respectable and understandable argument. I also don't know how curry is on defense. He's just one of my favorite players. So I could retract his name

Paul George hasn't proven you can build a franchise around him. He wasn't the main peace to the Pacers being good. David West and Roy Hibbert were. He just grew and got better and was able to benefit from there down low.
I'm not saying he couldn't be a franchise player but I don't think he is on the level of those other guys who actually built teams up from the bottom.
