Authorities say a Terrytown man raped a fellow inmate at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna by forcing the victim to perform oral sex. David Genard, 40, is accused of slapping and punching the victim before forcing himself on the inmate, according to a Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office arrest report.

The assault occurred about 11:30 p.m. Friday (Feb. 14) at the jail, located at 100 Dolhonde St., Gretna. Genard had been arrested as a fugitive out of St. Tammany Parish and was in a holding cell with another inmate, the report said. No information was available Monday about the charge Genard faces in St. Tammany.

A Sheriff's Office corrections officer spotted Genard receiving fellatio from the inmate. But the officer noticed the inmate was "upset and crying, leading her to believe the act was not consensual," the report said. The officers separated the inmates and questioned them.

The victim confirmed the officer's suspicion. He told authorities Genard aggressively punched and slapped him several times and forced him to perform the act, the report said. The victim said he was afraid he'd be harmed if he didn't comply.
