Anyone prescribed anxiety meds?

Buddy of mine said he recently started having all this anxiety over work and personal matters so we went to the doc and got Xanax prescribed.
Is that normal? Can't you get dependent on those meds? Seems like you'd want to work though the anxiety on your own but I'm no beta

You went to the doc with your buddy about his anxiety?

Sometimes you need to train the body to forget the sensation of overwhelming anxiety. Xanax can help with that.

xanax is a terrible drug to be on long term

anxitey meds are a hell of a lot more common than you would think...
some people do get in trouble with them, particularly when they start combining them with alcohol, etc...but if someone has severe anxiety, it can be debilitating, so they have to do something...

I took wellbutrin for a year.
I just stopped taking them one day. They helped a lot. It wasn't hard to quit. I just decided I wanted to see if I even needed them anymore cause I didn't want to need them. I haven't taken one in 2 years and have not had any form of unmanageable anxiety.
Lesson:
1. They help
2. You may not need them forever
3. Gotta try and see before you know
4......
5. profit?

oh, I didn't know you were a dr
because I was under direct supervision of a dr friend.
Granted most of the time they ween you off them. I told him what I was going to do, and he said no big deal just monitor my mood very closely.

Xanax should only be used as needed and can be addictive. It can also cause some serious withdrawal problems if you are a daily user with a high dose and suddenly stop.

this is different. you made it sound like you just woke up one day and said frick it

I went off lexapro like that and wanted to kill myself
weened off xanax and wanted to kill myself because it was the worst physical experience of my life. fever, puking, sweating, dizzy, etc for 2 weeks. fricking awful

It's ok to quit welbutrin cold turkey.

Got ya.
Although I did just say frick it and stop immediately.
I just told him what I did. He said "fine, we'll talk every day or so for a while to make sure there's no negative affects"
also I wasn't on Lexipro or xanax, which are much stronger/more addictive than wellbutrin, at least from what I've heard.

yeah, that's pretty much what he told me. Much milder than xanax or lexipro.
