@JasonSobelGC: Due to impact of this week's ice storm, Augusta National's iconic Eisenhower Tree has been removed. No other major damage to course.
quote:
@JasonSobelGC: Billy Payne: "We obtained opinions from the best arborists available and, unfortunately, were advised that no recovery was possible."

@JasonSobelGC: More from Payne: "We have begun deliberations of best way to address the future of the 17th hole and to pay tribute to this iconic symbol."

Finally, Ike gets his wish.

Was it really in play as long as they hit the ball today?

They'll get another one planted by Masters time.

Nah, the pros today just hit it over the tree. This is just more about Augusta losing one of its symbols.

You're probably correct.

I'd bet that most people won't notice a difference at all once they get a suitable pine transplanted to that spot.

I'd be interested to see if they replace it. I could see them holding off until after the Masters. Would take a lot of equipment to rip that one up and bring in a new one. Would be rough on the grass.

The Augusta National can get things done a lot faster than any course in the world. Too many resources and a lot of money will make it look like nothing happened.

I'm aware. But they are dealing with a lot more unusual circumstances than they normally do. Replacing a pine tree that doesn't come into play much might not be at the top of the priority list.
Sounds like they had a reserve pine tree already tapped as the tree's replacement, but not sure whether that tree survived the storm either.

That was a stupid pine tree.

If the AN Chairman and members want it at the top of the priority list, it will be at the top.
And as someone else wrote, money is no object.

Not really the time of year to transplant trees from what I understand.

I agree, but I'm not sure that will be at the top of the priority list.
I'm no arboriculture expert, but I assume it's much more complicated than just digging up the old one, and plopping down a new one. The Masters is approaching quickly.
