Kind of a side topic, but it's nice to see how competitive America has become in world hockey. They gave Canada everything they had in 2010 and are back it again. Now it's time to capitalize.

Talent wise sure 2014 team is better.

But nothing in United States sports history compares to 1980 Team USA.

If we win gold in this one, where does it compare in your mind to 1980 ?

Not even close... We were amatures in 1980 playing against a bunch pro players from Russia.... We were supposed to get creamed... A great Great win for an American sports team.... Most who watched will never forget were they were when this happened.

The amazing thing is that it wasn't even on live TV .. It was played in the afternoon and tape delayed that night .. This was before the days of full blown cable TV .. the internet .. and round the clock coverage .. ESPN was only months old at the time ..

Yesterday's game was the only part of the Olympics that I have watched so far this year. It was damned exciting.

Yeah, the 1980 game was on a delay. A local newscaster for ABC here in DC almost lost her job for announcing the result without telling people to turn off the sound on their TVs before she announced that the USA beat the USSR.

I think the local ABC guy here did basically lose his job, or put wheels in motion for his firing by announcing it on the 6PM news ..

That was back in the early stages of the race to be first .. It was on Channel 2 here .. He was just scared Ch 9 or 33 would say it first ... Back then, 2 was far & away #1 in news here and it came on right after the show ..
