towing a boat????

Thinking of selling my F250. I don't tow as much as i use to. I'm thinking of buying a suburban, yukon, or Tahoe. i still have a large boat weighs 4700 dry, maybe 6500 lbs loaded fuel. I'm concerned about how it will pull down the road and also pulling it out the water with a SUV.
anyone have a boat this size or any experience with towing with an SUV.
thanks!!!!

just curious, size and style boat are you towing?

My dad used to tow a 23' Sea Ray with a 2004 Durango...never had any issues. 6500 may be pushing it, but I think you'd be okay if it's not that often and not a long distance.

Get a 4x4 to help at the landing. I don't think going down the road will be a issue at all.

its a 25open contender boat is actually 28foot. i tow it to grand isle and basically leave it for the summer and tow it back but when I'm down there i pull it in and out of the water. i know the f250 is ideal but I'm getting tired of paying more for diesel and i don't need that truck running around town and doing business.

Find you a beater F-250 for $5,000 or so and get a nice yukon. Keep the truck at the camp.

you no way a suv will pull that out of the water without help from the boat. my buddies 22' twinv needs to help his suv and its a 1/3 that weight.

I would get a friend to get it down to the island for you since you leave it their for the entire summer. The launches down there aren't to steep so you might be ok pulling it out.
Seems heavy for that boat though

we used to occasionally tow a pretty good sized fountain with a suburban...had to be really careful when stopping and also tore the transmission up a couple of times...
of course, SUVs were a little heavier made back then (350 CID engines, etc.)...
anyway, if you are only towing a couple of times per year, you should be able to manage...

Watched an old 2 wheel drive Expedition drag a 33' Procraft all around Louisiana for years and never needed either of the motors to help pull it up the slip.
Work smart, not hard.

A suburban with a 350 and today's are pretty different. I'd say anything up to 8-9k lbs is absolutely comfortable with a modern half ton set up for towing. Be smart with your right foot and whatever it's rated for is comfortable. Some are up around 12k pounds I believe.

Make sure you put brake controll for the trailer. Saves brakes on vehicle

Lemme know when you want it pulled down there. I'll tow it for you, then head back home to get my camper. You bring your own vehicle, maybe a Prius or something that gets really great mileage. When you head back home, I get the keys to the boat, you know, keep an eye on it for you and keep it well slimed. When you come back down, I'll just hang out at the camper (surf fishing) until your done with it again and head back home, and so on, and so on, until you want me to tow it back home at the end of the summer.
Do we have a deal?

My expedition does great pulling my 20'6" Tahoe Q7. Not as large as your boat but still heavy (45 gal tank with 220hp io). I don't like the Tahoes because the 3rd row seats have to be removed like we are still in the 90s. I like my Ford and the Sequoia because they fold into the floor. Jmo

I have a Tahoe and tow a boat of similar weight. Shorter trips, no issue what so ever. Longer trips, suck but is manageable. I'm 2wd limited slip, 5.3
I am looking to get a 3/4 ton crew cab because of my long trips and boat upgrade.

Off topic, but do you live in Louisiana? If so, were you at No Problem Raceway today? Saw a black 4 door Jeep Wrangler with SRT8 badges on it make a few passes.
