Question about S&W Shield

I bought a Shield 9 last weekend for my everyday carry so don't take this as being argumentative, just curious.
One of the reason Glock lovers hate 1911's is because of capacity. They will argue "Why give up the 7-8 rds. Just for a little extra power?".
Those same people will then turn around and reccomeded a Shield 9 or 40 as a carry weapon. Again, I have no problem with this, I just wonder why the shield is worthy to be carried but the 1911 isn't.

To me it's a question of size.

Yep.
The Shield is a single stack polymer pistol in 9mm, something Glock refuses to build for the populace.
And in the grand scheme of things, 9mm, 40, and 45 are about equal, with some specific rounds being slightly better than others. But none of that is huge enough to make a crazy difference. For a true crazy difference, grab a rifle or shotgun.

Different sized guns
Full sized glock capacity is double a full sized 1911 capacity

Caliber to caliber, the G21 is a .45 with a 13 round capacity. And Glock does make a slim .45, still with the 13 rounds..
I can't comment on the crazies and their opinions of the shield

You haven't seen many Glock vs. 1911 debates then.
I agree about the size. I bought a 1911 thinking I'd carry it and quit because it was to bulky. Thats also why I decided to replace it with the Shield. That's what got me thinking about this thread. I've got a gun that holds the same number of rounds that seems more acceptable, and some people's only reason for hating the 1911 was capacity.
It would take forever to dig it up with this site splendid search function, but I promise, that argument has been made numerous times in the Glock vs. 1911 threads.

I wouldn't say a 1911 is necessarily "bulky" as bulky implies width/girth ( love that word).
I don't carry a 1911 because it's heavy. If you compare it side-by-side to a Glock, the Glock obviously has the "bulky" part in spades. But the 1911 does weigh considerably more.
So, a single stack 9mm has less width than the already-thin 1911, holds as many or more rounds, and is easier to carry than a bulky Glock - sounds like a winner.

I don't get into those debates except to poke fun at King now and then. Picking on King is like an indoor sport here. I like to razz bapple about his vids too but they're jam up.
Reason I don't get in those other debates is that I'm no expert on guns. I understand different people have different needs. I think most recognize there are several "good" dependable brands as well as the "Taurus/Hi Points" to stay away from. Course, sometimes budgets are part of individual "needs" so maybe I shouldn't say that. *wink*

The Shield is worthy of being an excellent BUG. At least that's what mine is for.

The shield is a good little gun and I'm guilty if carrying it alone too much but I try to carry a gun with a little higher capacity but I don't understand why people have such confidence in such low round count.

To the average person who can't carry a full sized duty gun that often, having a gun with 8-9 rounds on him/her beats me not having a gun at all.

If you aren't very confident with 7 rounds, then get to the range, my friend. 7 rounds is plenty.
ETA: You can always carry an extra magazine, too.

@ Bapple I understand some people have limitations on what they can carry but that's not necessarily what I'm talking about. You know as well as I do that it's better than nothing but not as good as it could be. That's my only argument here.
@SabiDojo I'm very confident I can take 7 rounds at the range and put them very close to where I'd like them to hit the paper. When you carry a concealed handgun you aren't preparing to shoot 7 round groups with great lighting at a non moving target at 15 yards that will never shoot back. What I'm preparing for is having enough rounds in a handgun to get myself and loved ones out of a terrible situation. Sometimes it only takes one. I'm preparing for a much worse situation. If you think 7 rounds will alway be sufficient then feel confident and carry your 7 rounds but marksmanship won't always compensate for low round capacity.
