Just watched this cool video on Colt Pythons by Rich Wyatt from Gunsmoke on the Weapons Education channel.
Consecutive Pythons
But he brought up a really crazy thing. He said some manufacturers preferred the S&W action and the Colt barrel. With this combination, some people made "Smolt" or "Colt and Wesson" revolvers. Bing images brought in some interesting photos:

so buying 2 guns to end up with 1 worth less than either of the 1st 2...

Guy should have taken his ring off before handling.
He is making assumptions about the stocks. My guess is that they are aftermarket. The letter not listing the stock type implies the standard Type 3 walnut stocks. They are not attractive on those guns IMO.
The 'Smolts' were somewhat popular with specific shooters back in the day. The loose Python barrel would be purchased from Colt and installed on a Smith. 'Cugers' also exist.

This just keeps getting more interesting! I didn't realize certain revolvers had such changeability.

Good looking guns, but I don't get it.
