Nothing new there, well maybe the passport trick. The only western nation that bans beer is the US from what I heard.
Hell, the German team beer sponsor gave them a truckload of beer for London. They had it stacked on pallets in their section of the underground parking garage.
They are pretty OCD about drinking before or during your event, but once you are done its free reign.
I guarantee there is also some good weed in the village. Customs is a joke going into the games for athletes since the host nation could set off an international incident and the media coverage would be bad. It is also good form to show up with a ton of little pins. The more you pass out the more doors seem to get opened. In London some pins were selling for thousands of pounds a piece on eBay.
