Anyone know about Social Security benefits?

If an old married couple both are receiving SS...and one of them passes...does the surviving spouse continue to receive their benefit?

What the surviving spouse can do is apply for the higher benefit of the two.

The surviving gets the choice of the higher benefit of the two. They do not get both.

I believe the surving spouse gets the higher of the two.

Real life example. My mom and dad were married for 25 years then divorced. My moms SS check was $950 a month. When my Dad passed my moms check increased to $1600.
