My 11 yr old Chocolate Lab was diagnosed with lymphoma in November and given 4 months. The wife and I would like to honor her life by keeping her ashes in the house after she's gone. Does that sound morbid? Has anyone faced a similar situation?

Not at all..... Sorry for your loss.....

I have two mini wiener dogs and they are just 1 year old and I couldn't imagine a day without them......

Nothing morbid if it gives you comfort. I don't think it'd work for me, because I think seeing the ashes would make me depressed.

Do what you want. It's your animal. Recently, our cat of 10 years got diabeties, but I took it in the woods and shot her. Do what you want with your property.

Seems extreme, but if it relieved future suffering I guess that was best?

I could never do that. Would let the Vet put her to sleep.

not morbid at all. I know people who have their grandparents on the bookshelf.

Not morbid at all. We didn't do that, but did have our dogs cremated, and buried their ashes under their favorite tree in the back yard. Even got a stone with their names on it and put around the tree.

my dad did that to our family dog when I was a kid. just dug a hole, put our old mutt down in the hole, covered her head with a raggedy blue terry cloth towel and shot her point blank. bastard used a 357 magnum. oh well, see ya on da flip side, snowball.

There are better ways than this...

I have two things to say about dogs.... If it is a FAMILY pet that brings you joy??? Do it the right way... If it is a hunting dog that doesn't perform??? That's different... I work with guys all day that have put dogs down just cause they couldn't tree a coon the way they wanted... I disagree but hey......

I have family dogs...... Never been separated or outside[except for vet].. They are a joy...
