To make it worth purchasing?

I say yes, but it depends on your taste. There is plenty of stuff that doesn't overlap. I'm happy with both at the current prices.

Not too long ago I searched for a few bbc shows and amazon had a few Netflix didn't, also I searched for a few British broadcasting shows too. It's probably worth the price for the free 2 day shopping alone.
I imagine I'll eventually purchase once my ISP gets pissed about all of my torrents.

I know they've produced some original content too, are any of the shows worth watching?

They have a ton of overlap but there is enough exclusive material to make it worth having both, especially if you shop on Amazon at all. Also, I find the the picture quality is better when I stream through Amazon.

I am discovering yes there is. Hulu + however I am disliking. About to drop it. I dont see the point.

I hate the interface though.
It's good looking, but it's not very helpfull. I like the Netflix "hey here is 75 movies or shows that you might like in this genre." not what amazons editors like. You have to search harder to find stuff on amazon. That's my only complaint, which is kind of a big one I guess. Workaholics makes it worth it though.

You don't get prime for the movies and shows. It's all about that free 2 day shipping

Truth. I have had prime for 2 years now, and just recently started watching stuff on the streaming service because we bought a Roku during Christmas break. I still have my Netflix so my daughter can watch cartoons on my Kindle Fire without me having to watch them on our TV.

Really ? I have all three and Hulu+ is what I use more than anything...I would much rather watch last nights shows for free instead of pay for them individually (Amazon).

You sound like you don't have cable. Hulu would be pretty essential in that case, but if you do have cable it's pretty worthless. I got a 2 month free trial at Christmas and haven't found anything to watch yet. I had hoped to catch up on some shows that I missed, but I went to check Sleepy Hollow and you can't even watch the whole season.
As for the OP, if budget constraints make you choose one or the other, go with Prime simply because you have budget constraints and the free shipping will probably be useful to you. If you can afford both, get Prime for the free shipping and the BBC/USA/SyFy shows/seasons you can't get on NetFlix, and get NetFlix for the superior interface. You will definitely find something you want to watch faster on NetFlix, but there are some surprising things you'd never think to look for on Amazon Prime, like travel and cooking shows.

I didnt think so, I still rent a few things on Prime, but I dont order enough to justify having both.

But you still have to pay per episode

I don't think you know what Prime is. While you can buy movies and TV shows from Amazon, Amazon Prime is the free streaming video you get with Amazon Prime.

I have it..My issue with it is that the old episodes may be free, but you pay for the newer ones..
ETA: I like to watch Parks and Rec..I watched the latest one for free on Hulu...I would have to buy that episode if I wanted it on Amazon..Unless I want to watch last years "prime" season

I've had prime for a while and I just started watching.
Yes. There are free streaming TV shows on AP (SG1, SGA, Farscape, etc) that are not on Netflix.
The only bad thing is that SG1 started on Showtime for the 1st season or two and had some nice naked chick scenes that Amazon has cut out.

I loved Betas. I couldn't stop watching it. Thought it was awesome.
