I think rape was still frowned upon a bit, even back then.

I bailed last season. Some critic nailed it, the show has experienced a Total Quality Collapse.

I just assumed it was. I'm not up to date on my British "since when did rape become frowned upon?" history though.
Her being totally fine with him getting off Scott free was just ridiculous imo. I don't know why her saying goodbye to him at the end bothered me so much though. I guess it just seems that would be the absolute last thing a person would do after getting raped. Especially since he's trying to rub it in.

I don't doubt that it was. However, in our society we realize how common it is, not sure that was realized then. Also, in our society it is easier to prove and the victim is usually offered more protection.

Even in the US. Marital Rape was legal until the 80s.
Even today, in most cases it is he said/she said. Very hard to prove unless the attacker was brutal.
Lower class citizens probably got short shrift when crimes were committed by Lords and Ladies.
I didn't even finish season 3. The show just ramped up the melodrama and nonsense plots to the point I gave up.
