San Diego is the best place to live. Its Republican, mostly white and has the best weather in the country. Its even better if you go north a bit to places like Carlsbad.

You don't even have a job. California is expensive. When are you going back to LSU?

Expensive. San Diego and San Fran are pretty awesome. San Diego is probably my favorite city. LA has some cool spots, but most of it is pretty meh.

It is damned expensive (for the most part) to live anywhere nice in Cali. That said, I paid $1700/month for a 2 BDRM in Santa Barbara for 6 years and am convinced it is the best place to live in America. Water is not warm like San Diego, but the beaches are great, and it has a much more small town feel. Would move back there in a heartbeat if I had $1 mil to buy a small 3 Bdrm house
What year in school are you? If a freshman or soph, Santa Barbara City College is a good idea. It has dorms and is right on the beach. Most graduates from the 2-year college go on to get degrees at one of the UC school, which are near impossible to get into as a Freshman.

If we could work remotely, I'd be tempted to move the fam to Highland, CA or possibly even Palm Desert if my budget were smaller.
I have a brother that had to move to CA for his job. It's actually an industrial job in Barstow, CA. Weird town in the high desert, but still very outdoors friendly.

For 2 years, I paid $2400/month rent for a 2 bedroom townhouse on the beach in Huntington Beach in Orange County. Best 2 years of my life. I miss that place.

At least you had a whole townhouse and were on the beach. We were in a 900 sf apartment a mile from the beach, but $1700 to live in downtown SB was worht every penny

I was stationed in Humboldt for 2 years. Redding California was pretty damn cool. Clint Eastwood has a big arse mansion there on Whiskeytown Lake.

The good: CA is a very diverse state. It's a beautiful place to live. There is lots to do within driving distance. The weather is awesome. Perfect roads for a motorcyclist. The fishing opportunities are too numerous to mention.
The bad: It's expensive. Taxes are high, housing is high, energy bills are high. It's very restrictive (building codes, gun control, eviro regs, etc). They aren't exactly the state that values freedom very much.
The ugly: Californians are not very neighborly. They seem to live in their own bubble. They're also obnoxious about their home state in the same way Texans are about theirs. "Everything is better in CA" "Anywhere outside of CA is awful and filled with idiots"
So, Mr OP...what area are you looking at?

Live in San Diego, go to UCSD.
I lived in La Jolla for a few years. Regret leaving every day. The weather, women, and lifestyle are tough to beat.

I was looking at Santa barbera or san diego. I have no idea what I want to do, and Im still technically in college at LSU. The thing is, I was hoping Cali people would be friendly. People who moved from Louisiana to Cali, what do you like better?

Ever live in Capitol Heights?

Cali people in general are not that friendly. But even with high taxes and other BS, I take Cali over Louisiana any day. There's just way more going on over there.
