Are we expecting an armed revolt anytime soon?

I'm having my doubts about this. Could you explain?

No one knows how many firearms are in the hands of the citizens. A group of enemy troops would never make it down my street. The ones that own guns won't stand to be run over by their own government or anyone else for that matter.

Two things:

THE WAR OF 1812 and the invasion of a number of countries with the RKBA.

It is hard to say how this would play out.. depends on the circumstances...

One model would be the civil war, in that many of soldiers in the regular army (such as Robert E Lee, ect..) went to fight for their home state...

In that type of scenario... you could see defections include the hardware they are associated with as soldiers... Tanks, jets ect...

Could get really messed up quick...

Nah. I don't think it's gonna happen. But the US military stands zero chance against an armed insurgency on US soil. It would take 1% to 2% of the population actively participating with about half supporting to bring the government to it's knees. Study an insurgency in history and you'll see what I mean.

Well, if you're using nukes on the your own soil you've already lost.

Under an scenario where nukes could enter the discussion, I would assume that other nations (Russia, China, Europe, ect...) would probably be picking sides and either endorsing or warning against the use of nukes...

Probably has a little more to do with the two massive oceans separating the US from our enemies, along with the logistical concerns of occupying a country of this size.

But just keep telling your self it's the 2nd amendment.

whether his statement is "technically" correct or not re: foreign troops,, there is no way to compare the sheer number of armed citizens and the "small world" with instant access media of today to the situations of the war of 1812.
Surely you jest,,,, apples to prunes??? Not even.

How effective could an independent militia formed by citizens be against an organized military with an incomparably superior arsenal?

Wasn't this the question?

Ok, Well the fricking pimped out tanks would have to suffice then..

I already laid out the plan to win brah. Don't fight the tanks. Fight the poor sap who makes the spare parts for the tanks, the guy who drives the fuel truck to the tanks. Hell, kill the guy who fills up the fuel truck.

ETA for the NSA: All hypothetical of course. I would never consider such a thing.

And their families. And politicians' families.

So many people are naive about how brutal this would be.

Maybe you should read some of our former enemies quotes where they specifically mention "a rifle behind every blade of grass" as a reason not to attack.

Not once did someone go on record as saying "the ocean is really big" as a reason not to. If that were the case Pearl Harbor would not have happened. After all, it was a long boat ride.

Regarding the notion of a foreign nation invading our country...

In today's world, with nations access to weapons of mass destruction and so forth.. the idea of invading a country such as ours comes with a risk factor that is too frightening to contemplate...

and it has nothing to do with the 2nd amemendment..
