Mark this down: Everything being done here is being done to create a political career for Mark Kelly.

The former Democratic congresswoman is featured in a new television ad set to air immediately before and after the president's speech. In the ad, Giffords faces the camera and says, "Congress is afraid of the gun lobby."
"Tell Washington it's too dangerous to wait," she says in a slightly slurred voice.

In the new ad, Giffords says that 9 out 10 Americans support background checks.
"They make it harder for criminals and the mentally ill to get guns," she says.
The ad is part of a national cable advertising campaign set to run nationwide on CNN and MSNBC. It's being paid for by Americans for Responsible Solutions, the group Giffords founded with her husband, retired NASA space shuttle commander Mark Kelly.

I've never understood the big fear of universal background checks.

The way Kelley has exploited his wife since her injuries is absolutely sickening.
How anyone can do that to their wife is beyond me.

It's sad to see how she's being used to peddle a political agenda especially which I'm reasonably sure she's not very involved in besides getting on camera and saying whatever talking points there are.

Truth.
Someone with very significant influence needs to call him the frick out.

The only way for universal background checks to work is for guns to be registered.
Registration = eventual confiscation
Besides, it is a feel good measure that won't make a difference in crime levels but instead just burden law abiding citizens.

Good because we already have background checks. Sorry Gabby, your side lost on this issue already. DWI

Read the second amendment and rethink that idea. Each American citizen has the right to bear arms and that right will not be infringed. Once you give the government the power to check, tax, and control the guns, you will reside in a 100% socialist state. Your Constitution was not written for a socialist state. Universal background check accomplish absolutely nothing. Period. End of discussion.

You have to register your car.
Nobody is preaching that because the government knows you have it they'll come and take it

There are already background checks. They want you to have a background check, if you give or sell your guns to relatives and friends.

Driving is a privilege, not a right. If you don't use the streets you don't have to register your car.

I don't quite understand this sentence, but there are numerous and recent examples of registration being followed by confiscation not that much later.

In my opinion the problem is when you decide which "mental illnesse" deprive you of your right to have a gun.
Depression? Ocd? Adhd? What about ptsd for veterans?

They are going to try and tax each American that owns guns before you know it. No one in this world has a right to know how many guns I own besides my wife. The only reason she has that right is because we share finances.
The conversation about background checks is pointless. Convicted felons can't legally possess firearms, but how many violent crimes are committed by convicted felons?

Guns are drastically different now than they were in 1776. And the guys who wrote the Constitution couldn't possibly see the consequences industrialization would have on the gun.
Registration wouldn't take away your right to own a gun anyways.

Are we talking about the same government that just made it a law for every American to purchase health insurance right under our noses without a common vote?

Your same argument could be applied to internet and free speech. Get out of here with your high school talking points that have been debunked time over.

Were the government's muskets more deadly than the citizens' muskets in 1776?

Her career as a prop hasn't really taken off yet, but she keeps trying.
