New Orleans Hotel Question

I'm taking a 3 day trip to New Orleans in a couple months (not during Mardi Gras) and am looking at a couple of hotels. The two that I wanted, Royal Sonnesta and Omni Royal Orleans, are booked, unless I stay an extra night. So right now I'm looking at Hyatt Regency and Royal St. Charles.
I plan on spending a lot of time on Bourbon and French Quarter. Is there a big difference between the Hyatt Regency and Royal St. Charles? And will it make a big difference not staying in the French Quarter?

it wont make a difference if you are at least in the downtown or warehouse district.
my suggestion would be do the name your own price on priceline and pick the warehouse district/convention center or downtown area. preferably the whd/convention center. put in for 4 stars and put around $60. we always get rooms at 4 star hotels for $60. its a few minute walk to the quarter and all the hotels have been really nice and accommodating
earlier this month i got the marriott and renaissance for $55 and $60 a night respectively

Just stayed at the Hyatt this weekend. Nice room and good restaurants. It's nice to have a solid home base after tearing it up on Bourbon.

Hyatt Regency is newer and nicer. Royal St. Charles is very basic, but it's not terrible. I would choose Hyatt Regency over Royal St. Charles.
eta: what I mean by basic, was my room was super simple, no amenities like good mattress or extra pillows, opened the window curtains to reveal a brick wall.

Hyatt is nice, but their bar restaurant sucks.

No any half healthy person can make that walk. Its not a big deal.

Hyatt Regency's hotel bar restaurant is Borgne. I haven't eaten there but I have had drinks there and thought they did well.

If you are ok with not staying the quarter, check out the International House hotel and Renaissance Arts Hotel. Both in the warehouse district and you can usually get them for $99 a night on nonevent weekends. Those are two of my favorite hotels in NOLA that aren't 4star.

Hyatt is ok.
There are several to consider closer to Bourbon. One is Maison Dupray.
Also, the big generics, Marriott, Sheraton, and Hilton are all closer.
Nothing wrong with looking at places in the warehouse district. I suggest the Embassy Suites on Julia St.

I'll definitely check those out, along with priceline. Thanks for the advice

We had the executive suite top floor at the Hyatt Regency on our honeymoon in December. Amazing view and good proximity to everything. Great restaurants.

I don't like Maison Dupuy's location in the quarter. I haven't stayed there since 2008 but almost every room needed updating. My friend's entire wedding party stayed there and at least two rooms I went in had some bad funk smells. My room didn't have a funk but there were signs of poor housekeeping that made me uneasy.

Check out room 205 at chateau leMoine.
In the quarter, wrap around balcony, $225 night,
1 block off Bourbon.

The Wyndham garden on baronne is a really nice option, and only a block or so off canal.

I stayed at the Wyndham garden this weekend. The 24 hour diner was key after rolling in at 3am
