is Blaser Bay considered a better hull than Nautic Star?
Posted on 1/29/14 at 11:52 am to adhd
I havent been in Nautics new pocket hull deal but compared to the other hull, Blazer handles better in open water in my opinion

There was a really nice looking blazer bay 22 or 24' for sale off highway 311 in Houma last weekend, not sure if it's still there or not.

they seem very comparable to me
i may prefer the fit and finish of the NauticStar
i haven't been for a ride in either

theres a black 22ft for sale on La sportsman out of houma, I wonder if its the same one. LINK
Blazer has 2 different top caps they use, one is very basic with a wide open design that a lot of charter guys use, the other is completely finished with rod boxes and a back deck(the one I want)
Dont want

I think its spot on as for what it goes for but I liked nautic stars better when they were more affordable.
Yeh, no doubt its dead on for what the boat has... but i'm not paying that for a Nautic Star. Used to be a really good buy, now they are pricing them crazy. I'd rather either spend a little bit more and get a better boat or just spend less and get damn near the same quality.... for that price, i'd look into a blackjack personally

When comparing nautic star and blazer, actually go get in them at a boat show. The fit and finish is very different in the two, just look at the storage latches alone. Not sure if blazer recently changed but for longest time was using those plastic latches with the metal ring, all the stuff on NS is stainless. I've found both to ride pretty good, not the best ever, but largely proportional to the boat length.

The trailer was a TPOS though, and prior owner must have never washed it down. I've replaced just about every part to it.

On that latch you speak of, my 2110 had plastic for that one but on my new one it too is SS. Taking the time at boat shows to look at a boat's fit and finish along with how well it is "thought out" is well worth the effort, IMO. Blue Wave is another I've noticed above average fit and finish along with it being very well thought out. I used to work for a dealer back in high school, we sold skeeter bay and bass boats; I've seen a lot of damn bay boats !

quote:What motor? Also, name all the other 50 mph 19' 150 hp bay boats. We consistently were at 53+ with no jack plate, Mercury Optimax 150. And it stuck like GLUE in turns. Try trimming down while at full throttle in turns.
Slow as heck. Barely get 50mph with a 150 and jackplate.
I say "were" and "stuck", but I am friends with the guy we sold it to. I assure you it still IS consistently at 53+ and still sticks like glue.
Ours had(has) locking rod storage on the port side in the gunnel. We used the icechest seat for additional dry storage since it has the in floor fish box.
As for the pop up cleats, never had an issue in the 6 years we owned it. Wash the boat after use in salt water. Might help...

I have always preferred the more open design. I don't like the rolled edges and I don't like all of the floor space taken up by storage I probably won't use. Where would I fit my 250 qt yeti om the one you want?

quote:Yes, but that think it terrible. Good place for your rear light and that's about all. Can't even close it on an ambassador reel.

Funniest part of this thread is that everyone but one dude on the first page likes the pop-up cleats.

One of mine sticks from time to time, but it's really easy to unstick. I like that they basically go away when not in use. I rarely need them.

Looking at that second Blazer Bay layout you posted, I like Nautic Star and our Blue Wave better. More usable storage and rear jump seats.
Posted on 1/29/14 at 3:19 pm to jordan21210
I also like the half step up front

The storage in these boats is amazing. We went in looking at xpress' hyperlift hulls hard. You could store an entire xpress in the extra storage compartments. And they draft less than the xpress.
+1 on the half step. The nautic star has storage in the floor (cast net bucket), then storage in the half step, then four compartments on the front deck.

We just have empty compartments all over ours. The two on the rear deck behind the jump seats were filled with new Plano boxes that we didn't even need.

One thing we'll have to get used to is using fish boxes instead of an ice chest.

Mine must be missing a lot of that storage. I use my front baitwell for storage now. I'd use the floor deal, but the plug comes out and gets 2 to 3" of water in it. Ruined a bunch of my baits-had my tackle box in there. So, I basically do not use it at all.
