I can't agree with that and I like the movie a lot. But the movie is missing the back story for Sheriff Bell and the book is just exceptionally well written. My favorite audio book for sure.
I'll go with Star Wars. There actually is a book, written by a fairly well known sci-fi author and it came out before the movie. It's pretty bad.

But was the book a licensing deal from the movie? Pretty sure Star Wars was original material.

Ghostwritten by Alan Dean Foster. Was not an original work, it was based off of Lucas' original screenplay.
