Malik McDowell: Five Star, SDE

Quid pro quo means an exchange of goods or services, something given or received for something else...in this case their commitment for a shot at a NC and a place in the NFL like Mingo, Montgomery, and Edwards.

Malik (just got his 5* back!!) and Lorenzo and their families are very, very close to Miles, Haley, & Chavis. They are Mingo and Montgomery X 2 and the cornerstones with CG3 of LSU returning to the top defense in the nation. LSU is a co-leader for their services, even before their OVs. I expect to see them both in this class because they are selfless team players of the highest character and that is the overall character of this class. They and their families value the DE tradition at LSU of putting players in the NFL and both are very serious scholars, well rounded men, who want to play on a team with chemistry and they love the coaches. I have chronicled their recruiting and feel as optimistic as the coaches about landing them.

Because of their academic interests and their desire to play on the team "that puts DEs in the NFL", has a winning tradition, is SEC, and competes for NCs, I have always thought Miles and Co. will land them. If they do it will be like Michigan and Georgia lost LF7, so it is a huge coup, a remarkable recruiting achievement.

In light of recent events around here I'm predisposed to be suspicious of new posters raising expectations or claiming special insight.

After reading the posts about both recruits, I just feel like LSU has a better chance to sign Carter than McDowell--seems like the chances a very remote for the Tigers for McDowell.

Now it looks like it would be quite an accomplishment to get him here for a visit.

Checklist for a recruit: look for a program’s stability in a head coach; build a solid relationship with a position coach; ask about a program’s depth chart; and find out how he’ll be used in that program’s package. Kind of difficult in the SEC top programs this year with all the coaching changes...nod to LSU.

Malik just has too many schools at this point and he tends to be too nice and a bit indecisive with so many options. Lorenzo on the other hand is reported to be LSU, UGA, or FLA with UGA thinking he is an out of state lean like most Georgia top recruits this year. His visit supposedly went very well especially with the parents and the academic "engineering major" part.

Yes, hope we still get McDowell here for an OV. But this board will never know what happened in the Miles and Haley visits, only that the recruits, their coaches, and their parents are impressed.

I invite you to read my posts which are documentaries 'ad nauseum' entirely focused on the recruitment by Chavis, Haley, and Miles of these two ends: Lorenzo Carter and Malik McDowell, with the goal of having a 2011-12 Mingo/Montgomer/Edwards pass rush. I hated to see McCarron sacked only 10 times all season before OU sacked him 7 times with 2 INTs and a strip and score, and read over and over about how great he was when they have had such a soft schedule for 6 yrs. We keep losing record numbers of sophomores and juniors to the draft. The coaches are doing their jobs too well! We need to graduate some top players and believe it or not Fournette wants multiple degrees, and education is a priority for Malik and Lorenzo.

I claim no special insight but raising expectations by presenting summaries of hours of research on their interviews and videos and the recruits desire to go to LSU because we put defensive ends in the league and offer a winning tradition and quality education that they both seek, of that I am guilty.
