OT Plumbers: Need your help please

So my dishwasher filled with water in the bottom of the tub however it just randomly appeared. I hadn't run the dishwasher. Dishes were just sitting there from the past couple days and the water just showed up. This isn't the first time it happened. Last time I took it apart, vaccumed the water out, took it apart as far as I could and ran some baking soda and vinegar to try and clear any blockage. It's worked for about a month and now the problem is back. Any suggestions for a more permanent fix?

if it is like most, it dumps water into the garbage disposal...so, if your garbage disposal (or the line draining it) were clogged, I would think that water could back up into the dish washer...
now, that sounds kinda unsanitary and I would think there would be some kind of backflow preventer to keep that from happening, but that is what popped into my head...

If the drain line is on the same line as your garbage disposal, could be a blockage from that. Mine is set up that way and sometimes if cooked rice or something similar goes through the disposal it will get stuck and will stop up the drainage from the dishwasher. This would cause water to show up in the bottom of dishwasher.
I've always just disconnected the drainage hose and snaked out the blockage and then it would drain just fine.

Yep. You got a clogged line where your dishwasher drains. It's all connected to the kitchen sink so be brave and start taking stuff apart and exploring. Just remember how it was all put together and maybe take a picture for reference when you put it back together. Don't be afraid to do this. Be afraid of what a plumber will charge you. This is not a hard job to troubleshoot. Good luck and don't be scared. Your wife will respect you even more and might give you some for your efforts. Do that plumbing and then do her plumbing!

As mentioned above, check the garbage disposal.

If water showed up after it ran it is the check valve at the drain pump outlet.
I just had mine apart and mine is a little rubber plug that reseats.

so where is this pump and check valve located?...can you access it from the inside of the dishwasher?...

Check to see if your drain line from the dishwasher is tied up higher than the inlet on the disposal (close to the underside of the counter top behind the sink). Helps keep the water from backing up into the dishwasher.

It is up underneath. You'll probably have to pull it out.

So you leave dishes in there for days? That's as nasty as the backup water.

They don't go in dirty. They are rinsed before they go in

Just a peeve of mine. No dishes in sink. When done, rinse and run dishwasher.
I also wash after I piss and use a towel only once. Caught those other threads in this one so I'm more efficient.
And I have no idea what is wrong with your appliance.

Either it is what these guys said or your sink drain is stopped up further down and water is flowing down the dishwasher drain b/c it is lower than the possible clogged sink.

once you get it fixed, you might want to use Dishwasher Magic, which is a cleaner and disinfectant

There is a rubber flap on the dishwasher, his must be missing, they actually come off a lot.

What is this rubber flap you speak of?

Mist dishwasher have a flap (pretty much all d/w do) that ensures water only floes out from the drain motor and not back in.
As seen in this image of a drain pump
It's literally a $3 part
with it in place water does not flow back in to the dishwasher.
