It wasn't until Durant's third season that the Thunder made the playoffs - and they were knocked out in the first round.
Patience
Yoda: Stopped they must be; on this all depends. Only a fully trained Jedi Knight, with the Force as his ally, will conquer Vader and his Emperor. If you end your training now - if you choose the quick and easy path as Vader did - you will become an agent of evil.

We really need to make a sticky thread on ADs contract situation. We basically have 6 more years to get things right. We obviously shouldn't screw around, but it's too early to worry about AD leaving.

Was that around the same timeline we had with CP3?
(And it obviously failed hope AD will be a different story)

How many years left on AD's contract?

Many of the truths that we cling to depend on our point of view.

How many years left on AD's contract?
This is his 2nd year, after next season they can negotiate for his 5th yr forward. At least Wall and Cousins got their max deals after the 3rd season to have the negotiations not interfere with the 4th season already under contract. I belive he can can a max+ if he makes an all star game or is on the all NBA team. If he stays healthy it will take a lot of cash to keep him regardless where he plays. I guess by production,he is a steal for the 1st four years.

Got it, so we will know soon if he intends to stay (sign that max deal) or if he has his eyes on playing for a current contender or something
Wall signed that max deal and the wizards suck so I think AD will stay put

Two more years under Team Options.
Will likely sign either a four or five year deal afterwards.
Remember, CP3 still had two more years left on his contract when the Hornets traded him (player option).

We can match any offer after the 4th year and can even give him more cash by giving him a 5 yr contract instead of a 4 he could get elsewhere. He may sign and just do it for 4 years. Cousins signed the 4 in Sacramento, Wall went 5 in DC. I suspect AD will sign the 4 so the Pelicans should have him his first 8-9 years. Build a winner and chances are he may stick around. By then he may have a wife, kids, a home etc.

I suspect so also. If he continues to improve, he's going to be a top 3 player in this league by that time and know that he's got an even bigger contract coming his way after the first extension.

The team has a good amount of young talent. Holiday, Evans, Anderson, and Gordon are at the very least big time starters on the vast majority of teams in the NBA.
This team should be very strong in the future if they can get healthy and add a couple more role players.

He'll sign for 5 years. All he had to do is make an All NBA team twice in the next 3 years, which he will starting this year, and he can get the Rose Rule extension. He's not saying no to 5/$100

As mentioned, the way the NBA rookie contracts are set up he isn't going anywhere for at least another six or seven years. After that… who knows? But if this team isn't contending I'm sure he'll look elsewhere.
