Again, as long as you do it over the phone and you are honest about your relationship with the person, I don't see you running into issues. It's just something to be cognizant of.

So I hate chase and united but do end up having to fly united a great deal being in Houston. All that being said, is the explorer card worth it?

Did Chase sleep with your wife or something?

I'm the same way with BoA. If you fly them fairly regularly I'd go with the mileage plus club card

No they only fricked me; my wife was only a witness.

What'd they do, if you don't mind my asking?

I was in Australia. I was trying to eliminate my PMI. They refused to do business over the phone or via their private messaging service. And I quote "for security reasons, you must use the postal service..."
It was just a delay tactic. I went back and forth for months with them. Finally just refinanced with a different bank. There were a few other minor things but this complete lack of customer consideration was beyond me.

If you use united for revenue flights twice per year it pays for itself with free luggage alone. Also it's commonly reported that they offer credits and miles if you call and complain when annual fee comes due.

If you have a business and get the offer it's the Platinum Business targeted offer for 100k points. If not, the personal Platinum offer is 40k points. You're going to have to spend a lot to get 250k points. I've spent over $30k since May and only have 85k points.

The points are in hand. My question was directed more towards discerning best transfer partners and/or redemption practices.

Point wise Aer Lingus biz can be a bargain depending how done.
Personally wasn't a huge fan - Flew to Dublin biz class from Toronto. Food was meh, movie and TV selection was the worst I have seen by far. Those tend to be important to me. Staff was great though. Seat about normal for low end biz (yes I have been royally spoiled by the Asian airlines) lol

Received a targeted 100k point Amex Platinum offer in the mail today. The benefits sound sexy, but the fee is obviously pretty steep. I had no intention of getting another card right now, and certainly not an Amex. Thoughts?

You would be dumb not to take that targeted offer IMHO. Take the offer, use the points, downgrade the card or cancel it if you don't want to pay the fee going forward.
100K MR points = $1,000 minimum.

What he said. If you travel enough the card pays for itself

Is that the business Platinum 100k offer?
