My credit score is around 780 but I only have one CC at the moment - Discover IT. I can choose the airline I want.. Mostly flights from Pitt to Nola and back. Cash back would be ideal but I wouldnt turn down redeeming for travel if there were better deals.
Well you could get several suggestions here, but I think your best option for a personal card to earn travel points would be the Chase Sapphire Preferred and combine it with the Chase Freedom. Those points will provide you with several airline/hotel options and generally give a better return than a cash back card.
You could look at other cards if you were open to the idea of applying for a biz card.

Good to see my United hate is justified
United is #1.... at sucking
I still did the online app today for the Chase card though. I'll have over 80k miles with the bonus. Card will be cancelled.

United is not a praised airline company for valid reasons. The value in united reward points is the ability to use them across the star alliance network. There are some great redemptions for international flights through Star alliance using United points.

Good to know. I started looking at flying from Hawaii to NOLA or SFO or LAX and it wasn't that great. I like to go Int better anyway, so that's what I'll do. I got a $100 flight credit from my trip a few weeks ago for it being so shitty, my wife got 7,000 miles. I'm wondering if I should request to get the 7,000 miles instead?

My 60,000 point bonus from the Ink limited time summer special hit a few days ago. Always feels good when signup bonuses show up
Shame I'm going to have to outright cancel this card after a year, though. Unless someone has some gypsy magik way I can get around it:
Currently have a Freedom, CSP (applied in December), and Ink Bold (Applied in May). CSP will be downgraded at the end of the year. I'll likely be applying for an Ink Plus at that time. That leaves me with the Ink Bold that is not downgradable and with a looming yearly fee and is duplicitous with the Ink Plus.
I don't imagine Chase would give me the sign up bonus if I simply converted my Ink Bold to an Ink Plus, would they?

No
Are annual fees a deal breaker for you? I limit myself to one yearly annual fee card. I can justify it since I put 80% of my spending on it and get back more in perks than I pay for.
I ask this because my Dad is opposed to any annual fee even though it makes sense in some cases

I have both Ink Bold and Plus. Took a while to convince them I needed both .
Anywho, plan is to keep bold and downgrade ink plus. As of now the bold will be my only fee card with Chase, and that's all you really need is 1.
My 60k hit yesterday. I had a similar happy feeling looking at it

Not even one. If someone you trust has one, you can transfer points to their UR account, then they can transfer it to the appropriate transfer partner.
I just did it the other day for a family member to get their UR points on their MileagePlus account.

I'm not at all opposed to an annual fee. However, I'm opposed to paying one unnecessarily. I intend to get the Ink Plus to net another sign up bonus. Whether I have the first year waived or jump on one of the big bonuses and have to pay the first year, it doesn't change the fact that I would be paying an extra fee on the Bold for no reason.
The thought occurred to me when I applied for the Bold that I would end up in this situation, but I decided to do it anyway instead of having to jump through the hoops Teddy has described concerning conning them into believing that adding a Bold to an existing Ink Plus somehow made sense
That's a great way to become persona non grata with Chase. Just a warning.

Is there something in the ToS that would indicate this? Chase customer service did the points transfer for me from UR acct to UR acct.

Reportedly you are only supposed to transfer UR between domestic partners and spouses. Multiple reports that switching UR between others besides that will lead to cancelation and forfeiture.
Surprised they did it. Think about it, why would anyone pay a fee if it worked like that? You probably got someone who didn't know better

This is the content of the "How it Works" box on the right side of the screen before you choose a transfer partner:
How it works
Check with the travel partner for award availability and number of miles/points needed. Select the number of points to transfer, in increments of 1,000, and enter relevant information. Review and confirm point transfer request. Most point transfer requests will process by the next business day, but in some instances it may take up to a week based on travel volume. Points can only be transferred to yourself, spouse or domestic partner. All point transfers are final.

Can't believe you can't transfer to kids. I know my Dad gave me all of his last year

When in doubt, call Chase and tell them the situation, ask if they will do it for you. That's what I did about six months ago when I wanted to pool points with my girlfriend for a trip. The woman checked with her manager, came back and did it for me.
You run the risk of being told no, but at least you aren't running the risk of having your points frozen and being blackballed by Chase.

I did it online and spent them immediately. Worked out but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous

You'll probably be fine, but I certainly wouldn't make a habit of it
Posted on 8/9/14 at 8:42 pm to Joshjrn
I'm not worried. Chase facilitated the transfer over the phone, and I don't expect it to be a frequent occurrence, although I plan to do it again.
