Just got the email for the competition entries.

Question: I have a big event planned at my house for that day. How long does an event like that last? I know it says it starts at 10:00 am, but what all does it entail. I'm wondering if i'd be able to drop by at 10, and then stay for an hour and come back. Just wondering if the results will be announced by then.

Seems like I saw that the awards would be announced at 5pm and scoresheets would be available after that.

I'm entering 2 beers, with the possibility of a 3rd, if I like it when it finishes next weekend.

Judging will start at 10am. When the actual awards ceremony will be is going to depend on how long it takes to complete judging. We are hoping to have all judging complete mid-afternoon and have the award ceremony at 5PM.

Feel free to drop by at any time during the day.

If any of you guys attended the New Belgium roll out at Mockler, we will be using that same room.

Ok. I've never been to a competition before, so i don't know how it works. Do the judges give you your score sheets when they finish with your beer, or do they do it after the awards? Or do they announce when they finish judging a category?

Typically you don't know your scores until the score sheets are mailed to you, but I think the software we are using for our competition will allow me to enter the scores and make them immediately available.

The judges don't know who submitted the entries they are judging and are not allowed to judge styles they entered. This way there is no bias to the scoring.

I apparently need to get to brewing the Amber ASAP. Completely forgot about brewing. Entry deadline is the 21st correct?

Correct.

I don't know how we ended up with the Lafayette comp, iron brewer, and this comp all sandwiched in the same month.

It's certainly going to be a good month for homebrew fans in LA.

Yea along with the Covington "pro-am" deadline on the 22nd. Pretty nuts that it all falls in place the way it does.

I think it would be beneficial to start a LA Homebrew Club Summit or something so we can all map out the events, festivals, competitions, etc that are going on during the year.

I agree, we've talked about opening up the Louisiana Homebrew Competition to brewers from all states next year.

I think it would be a blast if we could figure out how to have the Iron Brewer and Club Competition the same weekend.

I'm not sure what type of logistics would be involved, but I think it would definitely put Louisiana/Baton Rouge homebrewing in a spot light if only for one weekend.

What we could do was have the drop off deadline for the competition on Friday afternoon, have some get together on Friday night for those people coming into town. Then have IB on that Saturday. On Sunday have the judging for the competition with the awards ceremony early enough so that people could make it home on Sunday. Or have the judging before IB on the Saturday with the awards ceremony on Sunday or after IB on Saturday night.

that was my thought too... we should find time after WYES to get some reps of the NOLA, Lafayette, and Baton Rouge clubs together and figure something out.

The guys from Foam Rangers have contacted us a few times about wanting to hold a combined NOLA/BR/Houston event in Louisiana.

So I would think a lot of those guys would come over and have a great time.

We had a little snafu with the competition website this morning and the entry window closed before it was supposed to and site wont allow me to reopen it...

If you have a beer that you want to enter a beer in the competition. You can send me an email with the beer name and style and I can the entry manually for you. You should be able to do everything else from that point.

Nice! I have to drop mine off this afternoon.

Are you going to be able to come by the awards ceremony?

Dropped off another one yesterday. Think I must have just missed you. Did you go by and get a drink of the GITM?

Was supposed to, but didn't make it over last night.

Guess I will have to wait until next week.

I was just in the right place at the right time. The store was hopping when I got there, and Keith hadn't milled my grain yet. Lucky for me, I just hung out for a bit and got to try it. So happy to have this place here now. I can't see me ever ordering from Austin or Northern Brewer again, when there's such a great homebrew store in town.

I should be able to. My wife wants me to do a cancer walk thing that morning, but that's all i have planned. I may or may not have to go to that.
