Morning MB.

Taking today and tomorrow off for a lil family road trip. Already itching to be in the woods.

Good luck and be safe to everyone going out today.

Lock on in a drain that runs through a field.

Dad says he saw the widest deer of his life here yesterday evening. Said it was right at dark and he saw two white spots and thought it was throat patche on does untit they moved together along the wood line. Couldn't find it in his scope, just binoculars. We've teamed up on him this morning

Carthage, MS.
45 Degrees, light fog or very high humidity
.270, although having not seen a single deer, I might as well have been carrying a spear.

One last try. I give my boys a lot of credit, they've logged the hours over the last 5 days, even though they've only seen a couple. Which is a couple more than I've seen. After all those years hunting in the Hill Country zoo, they are getting a taste of what I grew up with. Deer sightings were as scarce as a winning season by the Astros. I'm guessing they will be more willing to make the 9 hour drive next year.

What takes over 6 hours? Open jar roux, dump in precut veggies, can of crabmeat and bag of shrimp and boil in stock.

Had a yote give me a perfect 50 yard shot. Of course he would on a hunt where I'm only pulling the trigger on a wall hanger buck

I'm speculating, but I think it's two things. My cousin and his son and grandson killed 8-9 does with bow and "primitive" weapon. That's a fair number for a modest number of stands, and likely took out the dumbest ones. But more so, with MS just starting to allow baiting, I am guessing his food plots can't compete with the neighbor's corn feeders. Some hung around during bow season because he had a good mast crop, I'm betting they are all pigging out on corn instead of eating his greens. Purely a guess, but he has some beautiful patches of clover, turnips and other fields with no sign whatsoever. Not even seeing any on the cameras at night.

Good thing we weren't counting on me bringing fresh venison for NYE.

This guy scanned the field for 20 minutes. Another young 8 came in and I thought it was gonna be a battle but instead he just started licking his face and they left together. Phil Robertson would not approve
