You stay confident San Diego!

I understand the whole "if you play college football you shouldn't need motivation" stance by some but:
1. It sure worked against Florida this year with last year's comments
2. Based on last year's bowl performance, we may be able to use a little motivation
So, if any of you know LSU players well, let's make sure they see this. K thx

++ Context Matters ++
His point was that the media hype around SEC teams makes it SEEM like they walk on water.
Lowery and his teammates are not apparently sweating the aura of playing a team from the SEC, which has won the last seven BCS national championships.
"The SEC has good players, don't get me wrong," Lowery said. "But if you never turned on the film and you heard what the media says about SEC teams, you're like, `Those guys are all-world.'
"But once you turn on that film (of LSU), they are doing same exact things we see every day. At the end of the day, they have to block and tackle like any other team.

Should they just quit because lsu was so impressive? Maybe they got the ole miss film?

When I watch film on Iowa I get really really......board...then I wonder how much eligibility I have left incase my slow arse still wants to play D1 football hahaha.

So where does the context matter here? He's saying based on watching LSU, Iowa is confident they'll win. Should he say Iowa is going to lose? Of course not. But, it's clearly saying "we're better than you. We're not Impressed." As a player, that would motivate me

I understand what he's saying to an extent. But the SEC has basically dominated the college football landscape...there's a reason they've received that hype. Yea, LSU on film probably is somewhat boring, I'll agree. And all football players should be confident, but if Iowa players are confident, imagine what LSU players are thinking

the iowa player never called out lsu, he called out the sec
what he said is completely expected from a player headed into a game

What is he suppose to say? That he is scared that our players can't compete with LSU because they are located south of the imaginary Mason Dixon Line and every athlete is bigger, faster, stronger and smarter... Get real
He has confidence and is saying that LSU is not a gimmicky team, they are a team that will line up and play man to man football. Iowa see's this type of team in MSU, OSU, Wisc and Penn St most years, so it's nothing new to them.

Maybe in his own locker room. Those aren't the types of quotes coaches want their players saying in the media BEFORE a game. Miles would rip his players if they said "all big 10 players are slow and their film isn't impressive" at any point this week and rightfully so

Dude. You're taking this the wrong way. As I said earlier, he has every right to feel confident as a player. They are supposed to. After the past few LSU bowl performances, I'm certainly not of the mindset that this is going to be any type of beat down by LSU. Could it be? I could see it but certainly don't expect it. We have a true Freshman QB in his first start for Christ's sake. I think he'll be a good one but it's his first start.
The point is, a player from the opposing team is talking shite about his opponent through the media before the game and I hope LSU players see it.

Break down this quote for me then as you see it pertaining to how this Iowa player views LSU as an opponent.
My interpretation: We watched film on LSU. We don't see the hype. We are not impressed and we're confident we'll win.
I don't see the need to make that type of statement pregame.

LSU will have their hands full. As has been stated in other posts, Iowa plays disciplined football and reminds me of those small-ball baseball teams i.e. UCLA (that give LSU fits). What Iowa is probably seeing is typical Les Miles grind-it-out football and feel like there will be no surprises. There is a surprise though, and that is a scrambling QB that is a threat to run.. Though unproven as a starter, AJ is going to pose some match-up problems they have not seen in the LSU game films, i.e. read option. Every team that takes the field should feel confident against their opponent. But, Iowa's confidence is nothing more than a false sense of security. #gotemwherewewantem
