On a side note. If I was UGA I would send Richt packing. That state is loaded year in and year out. they let too many guys get away. The amount of prospects in GA trumps LA any cycle.

NFL QBs considered to have weak arms:

Tom Brady
Drew Brees
Russell Wilson
Andy Dalton
Alex Smith

NFL QBs considered to have cannons:

Ben Roethlisberger
Matt Stafford
Jay Cutler

Most lie somewhere in between and their competency is determined by a variety of factors of which arm strength alone is just one.

The state of Georgia and Louisiana are very different entities. The vast majority of the prospects come from the ATL, where there is almost no inherent loyalty to the instate program. Also half the high school coaches are from other states and programs and will often push or at least speak highly of other programs. The sheer number of D1 prospects means that a program like UGA that doesn't oversign is never going to be able to lockdown the state. With so many prominent schools very close to its borders, oftentimes the distance is shorter to a big OOS school as well. Oh, and at least a quarter of the time, the kids don't have the grades or scores to qualify in the end, especially in some of the rural districts. Add to the fact that UGA has always been very successful in getting top prospects from SC and NC and more and more FL, and you can see why the numbers just don't work out many years. Yes, a year or so ago when they only landed 2 of the top 10 stands out, but the average is about 6 out of 10. There are many reasons why UGA hasn't had a chance to win a BCS title. Certainly a much smaller recruiting office in relation to other SEC schools has contributed to losing some guys.

As an update, though no one on the UGA side of things ever denied that Jennings is a very good player,it does not appear that anyone who has seen him practice at UGA is regretting the decision to take Ramsey. He was always going to need the RS year to adjust to the offense (he was on a wing T team in HS).

This was a criticism of him coming out of college. If anything it seems to have gotten better post-surgery, but that was a big knock on him early in his career.

Umm yes.

Brady himself even said he does not have the strongest arm. It was one of the reasons he was a 6th round draft pick. In an interview, he said he knew he had to work harder than any other QB to be successful and prove people wrong because, as many scouts said, he did not have a strong arm.

So yes.

Regarding Tom Brady...
quote:

Lacks a really strong arm. Can't drive the ball down the field and does not throw a really tight spiral.

quote:

Is not what you're looking for in terms of physical stature, strength, arm strength and mobility, but he has the intangibles and production and showed great Griese-like improvement as a senior.

I think it's because he doesn't throw "on a rope" that people say he has a weak arm

Yeah, don't the experts say "anybody can wind up and chunk it a mile"? It's throwing those across-the -field bullets out in the flats that get there too quick to let anyone cut in front of them that indicates arm strength...

I just checked his offers list on a whim and aside from Oregon, LSU was the only "top-tier" football program that offered him.

Just reading between the lines. He blew is ACL out his junior year. Maybe there was hesitation on some of the other programs. Couple this with the fact that his numbers did not blow it out of the water, although they were very good, maybe other programs went elsewhere.

He was injured in his junior year and just wasn't all that highly regarded anyway. After Rettig, who had a lot more hype surrounding him, committed to LSU, I seem to remember most people thinking that Jennings wouldn't come here or that we wouldn't accept the commitment if he tried to, but damn am I glad he did.

Also, I don't if you can really trust those lists of offers on recruiting websites.

lol!

I hope that we continue to get Georgia's left overs if Mett and AJ are any indication of what kinds of QBs we will end up getting!

Anybody else want to wrongly claim that Jennings blew his knee out his junior year?
